History: Ox is well known in the go ganger circles of Seattle. The semi-retired ganger is respected even across gang lines - his office is well known as neutral turf where you can get patched up from a bike wreck on the cheap and most of the creds go to a good cause, since he runs a free, first come, first serve clinic every Sunday. And though he doesn't run with the gangs any more, he still runs the shadows from time to time. Most runners consider having someone on hand to patch them up, particularly someone with a rep for being tougher then stone, a good thing. (Street legend holds that he took a rocket to the chest at point blank range during a run a couple years back and walked away without a scratch. 'course, street legend being street legend, its has also been claimed at one time or another that he has two heads, can fly, and is really a great dragon in disguise.) But for all that, he doesn't talk about his past much, prefering to let the legends tell what tales they want and making no effort to set things straight. What is know for sure is that he showed up in the sprawl about six years back, ran the streets for a few years, then setup his clinic and has been running it ever since.

What Ox rarely reveals is that he's the child of old east money with seriously corps-connected parents and an ex-student from Harvard, where he was working on his second post graduate medical degree. He took up with the local Boston gangs atfer a fight with his parents, a decision that would lead directly to the deaths of nearly 600 students. On a dare from a biker buddy, he and three other gangers broke into Harvard's high-energy physics building late one night. To this day, he doesn't know what the machine was or why it reacted the way it did when he flipped the switch, but the resulting blast destroyed the entire building as well as two neighboring dorms. He was the only known survivor and even then, he was thrown nearly 200 meters, broke every bone in his body, and burnt off half his skin and a third of his musclemass. Only the fact that his parents pulled out all the stops in paying for his medical treatment allowed him to survive.

No one knew, at least at first, that he was the one who triggerd the blast. It was assumed that he was simply passing near and had caught the edge of the blast. But when he was questioned by LoneStar investigators concering the accident, he paniced and ran. He hitched his way out of the city and eventually all the way to Seattle, where he figured he was far enough out to avoid being hunted down by investigators, and took up the amonomous life of a simple ganger. Still, as he saw more and more of his friends getting injured, he couldn't let his training go to waste, so eventually returned to medicine. It might suprise some of his customers if they knew that their street doc was as well or better trained as many of the top flight corp docs. But most also woundn't care - he's cheap and that's what matters after all.

He's also never admited (to ANYONE) that his real name is Francis Merryweather.

History:

Chun Do was 'adopted' by the Yakuza at an young enough age that he has no memory of life before joining them. His ties to the group predate his birth, as his parents were selected to undergo genetic alteration in order to pass it on to their children. His parents were killed shortly after his birth and he, along with several other canidates, was isolated in a Yakuza stronghold in New Tokyo. At age 3, he was selected as the most promising of the canidates. He was then sent to the local shinto temple in Kyoto, and it was there he spent his childhood. Most of that time was spent in training, though it was disguised as game, all aimed at perfecting his natural agility.

As he reached his teenage years, he was sent on a tour of national capitals. The goal was to teach him to blend in with any possible culture at a moment's notice. He learned to pick up a language swiftly and with no accent (or any accent he needed) and how to alter his facial features to appear as a completely different person. He even gained limited control over his coloration. By the time he reached 17, he could pass in nearly any culture world-wide.

Then began his training with the rifle. He spent 6 years in a small training camp on an otherwise uninhabited island in the south pacific doing nothing but mastering the use of sniper rifles - these days it is not unreasonable for him to claim to be the finest shot in the world, though he hasn't actually done so.

His training complete, he was assigned to the Seattle branch of the group. They set him up with a cover job as a mail sorter at the Seattle post office. For the next few years, he spent most of his life working peacefully at the post office, and every other month or so, taking out a high profile target for the organization. However, in the last year he has started to get ambition and has made noises to his superiors about wanting to set out on his own and do some freelance work. At this point, the Yakuza have offically cut him of from support. They haven't yet resorted to 'special' messures to force him to return his loyalty to the organization, but it is most likely only a matter of time.

History: Dervish has no idea where she came from, when she was born, or even what her real name is and is literally brand new to the streets. Her ealiest memory is of waking up in a cage in a white room smelling of anteceptic. Over the next few years she pieced together at least a bit of her story. It seems that the place she was being held was a black research lab owned by Evo and dedicated to cutting edge biomedical, bioware, and genetic research. She, like the other test subjects, had been grabbed for the program to test the effect of the research on non-metahuman genotypes. The tests were frequent, painful, exotic, and extreme (for example - she wasn't type 0 when captured). What, if anything, the researchers learned and if their program was a success, she has no idea. But after 6 years which were a close approximation of hell, the program was discontinued. From what she overheard, all the test subjects were to be killed and burned and the lab completely destoryed.

However, she found herself backed into a shipping crate instead. After a day and a half of total darkness, the crate was opened by a pockmarked orc in a dingy basement. It seems a lab tech had sold her as an 'exotic animal'. She was earmarked as the new challange for the South Seattle bloodsport ring. She survived her first few fights by luck as much as anything, but soon began to pick up the trick of it. The two years that followed, while unpleasent and extremely dangerous, were actually an improvement over the 'tests' which had made up her previous life. Her cell had more room then her old cage, there were other fighters to talk to, and she actually got to do something, even if that something was fighting for her life. Though she wasn't a big fan of her situation, things were at least improving.

Then, 8 days ago, the ring where she was fighting in was raided by LoneStar in the middle of her fight and shut down. Seeing her chance, she managed to flee and vanish in the confusion. Since then she's been on the streets. Her nimble fingers have been more then enough to keep her fed, but she all she has is literally the cloths on her back - she was wearing her fighting costume (an armored bronze corset, a mini-skirt. bronze greaves and matching vambraces, and her monowhip) when she escaped but she has nothing else to her name. Any job she is offered will be her first and is likely to arise because the offerer had seen her fight at some point and also saw her on the street sometime in the last week, since she has no contacts and is very much alone in unknown teritory.

History: James Mason was an active duty member of the UCAS military for 20 years and retired with full honors as a Captain in 2067. His inital assignment in the military was as a combat engineer, but as his career possessed, he became more of a specialist. His natural talent for the magic fingers spell led to his assigned to explosive ordinace disposal, since he could work from a distance and unlike most mages could afford to spend enough time to be truly familar with demo. Later in his career though, he began to largely abandon that technique in favor of a more direct aproach, as several accidents had convinced him he would generally handly the blast.

After his retirement, he purchased a decent place in Seattle, funded by his pension, and started a second career as a college chemisty professor, putting the working knowledge of chemistry he picked up working on bombs to good use. Unfortunately, he quickly became bored with his new life and it didn't take him long to realize what he was missing. He may have made a career out of disarming bombs, but what he really enjoyed was when they went BOOM! After several false starts, he eventually made his way into the world of shadowrunning, as one of the few places he could play with demo to his hearts content. Though he has kept his day job, most nights he can be found on the streets, blowing things to pieces for the highest bidder.

Because I had something of a tough time packing my character into 400 points, and you kept casually throwing out some *very* high dice totals in the recruiting thread, I mosied over here to see how you did it. On a careful review of your sheet, I noticed some issues on it that you probably ought to address.

-Given your Attributes, your Initiative ought to be higher- 11 rather than 8.

-There's some accounting wonkiness in the Attributes. They seem to check out as 200 bp, not 195- which is an impossible total anyway, as that would equate to half an Attribute point.

-Your skills are downright strange. Even assuming reflex recorders are taken into account in the 'base' ratings of the Pistols and Dodge skills, that would leave a base rating of 7 for Dodge, not allowed in the absence of an Aptitude quality. Even assuming it's 6, instead, they clock in at 108.
(20 for Pistol skill. 28 for Dodge skill, paying twice for the max rank. 16 for the Clubs skill. 40 for the Influence group. 4 for the two specializations. 20 + 28 + 16 + 40 + 4 = 108.
Edit: I see, it's both your MBW and RR bonuses going into Dodge. Are there any other bits of ware that add skill bonuses? If I missed two of them, it would be enough.
It's very confusing to list cyber-augmented skills like this, as directly built into the base rating: most just put the augmented total in parentheses or brackets.)

-You didn't explicitly note the Qualities inherent in your metatype- the Distinctive Style built into being a metavariant, the Striking Skin Pigmentation, or the Shiva Arms.

-More an observation than a mechanical problem, really, but you're going to be failing a lot of Composure tests...

Check - forgot to update it, you're absolutely right. I will do so after I finish this post.

Dodge base skill is 5 - the move-by-wire system gives a +2 bonus to dodge, the reflex recorder gives a +1. +2 from specialization gives the 10 dice I mentioned in the other thread.

True and I certainly can if the DM would like, but I didn't feel the need to note them specificly - the metavarient was already noted after all.

As for the other high number I tossed out, the insane sniper rifle shot - I originally started that character for a game on a different site which never took off and have been ideally playing with him for a while trying to improve him. I think (not positive) that he is within 2 dice of the maximum you can possible have with his sniper rifle. But he let pretty much every else fall by the wayside to get there. And even so it was DARN hard to get it in 400 bp - I think it took like 9 drafts to get it balanced.

History:

Casper used to be very well known indeed. Under the psuedonym 'Beard Hammer', he was a world famous trid-D porn star. Born and raised in Hollywood, he orginally had aspirations of becoming a true actor, but fell into porn somewhere along the way and managed to make an excellent career of it. But that all came crashing down six years ago. A carelessly dropped cigar after a drug fueled afterparty set one of his mansions aflame. Unfortunately , it was the one he was passed out in at the time. Hideously burned, Casper is a repulsive sight to this day and his injuries, for reasons unknown, have resisted all efforts to properly heal or conceal them.

However, the fire wasn't all bad, for in the midst of pain fueled fever dreams the Lover appeared to him for the first time and set his feet upon the path of Awakening. Ironicly, he came to the embrace of the Lover at the same time his porn career was permanently ended. Since then he started to shun public life (indeed, most of the public believe he was killed in the fire) and become a hermit, unwilling to face peoples reaction to his appearance. Instead, he threw himself into the mastery of his new magical talents, devoting his not inconsiderable will and substantial fortune to the task.

Unfortunately... one thing Casper lacks is fiscal discipline. He was used to the vast sums of money his porno empire brought in and in the years since the accident, he has run through his entire fortune, living above his means and spending far to much on mastering magic. This has brought him to Shadowrunning - he is nearly broke, especially compaired to his earlier wealth, but is unwilling to return to normal sociaty. He hit upon the idea of becoming a shadowrunner and is following up on. However, he has no real street experience or any real understanding of exactly what he is getting himself into.

History:

Born in Detroit, Stan joined the military at 17 to escape the sprawl. After a standerd four year hitch, he left the them to sign on with Knight Errand. He spent the next twelve years working his way up through the ranks, the final five of those years spent as the NCOIC of one of Knight Errand's elite response teams and the team heavy weapons gunner. Piloting top of the line personal battle armor, the team was a force to be reconned with.

During this period, Stan worked extensively with the unit's tacsoft, and over time noticed it growning more and more responsive and more personable. Eventurally it grew into a full fledged AI. Stan and the newborn AI grew close and he concealed its existance from his superiors for two full years. Eventually however, the discovered Belsarius. Rather then yielding to them, the AI made a bid for freedom. Unable to get off the Knight Errand base's secure node to the greater matrix, he (with Stan's willing aid) loaded himself onto Stan's armor comm and the two of them went AWOL together.

Bel escaped into the matrix as soon as they were clear, and Stan got himself smuggled from BoshWash to Seattle by the mafia, where he hoped he could fade back into the shadows. However, with a stolen AI and a quarter-million in top-flight military gear, its unlikely that the Knight Errands will be willing to let him live in peace.

1) I don't need any of the weapon skills other then gunnery in a technical sense. I have them because they fit the character I want, but I may never use any of them.

2) The character's arms go in the arms and legs go in the legs and he can move it without rigging it - but that's not the way it is meant to be used. Normally he will be rigging it, and while his arms and legs go along for the ride when the suit moves its arms and legs, its the suits servo-motors and exoskeleton that are moving the thing, not his muscle power.

3) The idea is that the military armor plus its built in comm, muscle exoskeleton, and mobility upgrade are the drone. So he is wearing the heavy military armor, but that armor is also a drone rather then 'just' armor.

4) Yep, big is fine. On the other hand - this is regular (if unusually heavy) body armor with an exoskeleton and enhancements - Its going to be noticably bigger then a normal human, but it should still be smaller then a troll, so he shouldn't have trouble getting most places a troll could.

Something like this is what I'm picutring - maybe a little bulkier then that (its not a sleek stream-lined iron man suit but not some giant anime mecha either.)

History:

Eldest son of the chieftan of the Ingqondo Iqaqa, the man now known as iKapa (he refuses to use or even admit to his birth name) spent most of his youth wandering the southern portions of africa with his tribe. He was trained in traditional Zulu ways, including the art of Zulu stick fighting, and how to live off the land, distaning modern city life. But though the tribe avoided cities, they are one of the larger and more powerful Wakyambi tribes and embraced modern technology in other ways, including bio and genetic modifications for many of their most promising warrios, such as young iKapa.

That, at least, was his life until he was captured by European based slavers looking for exotic 'animals' for the blood sport arenas of the mediterranean. Taken north, he was sold to a spaniard named Don Mendiza and would spend the next six years fighting in his stable. Oddly however, the two grew reasonable close, perhaps because iKapa spent five of those six years as the Don's most sucessful champion, and the Don saw no reason not to reward such perfomance. Indeed, other then being a slave and having to regularly fight for his survival, life with the Don really wasn't to bad.

In the end however, the Don proved to be a man of his word, and after iKapa's 100th win, he was offically freed, with the understanding that he would need to pay the Don back his original purchase price (though fortunately not the funds required for the additional mods done on iKapa while in the arena). Since then, alone and far from home, iKapa has made his way in the shadows, taking what runs he can and steadily working off his remaining debt.

History:

Doc Phoenix is well known these days in the go ganger circles of Seattle. The semi-retired ganger is respected even across gang lines - his office is well known as neutral turf where you can get patched up from a bike wreck on the cheap and most of the creds go to a good cause, since he runs a free, first come, first serve clinic every Sunday. It took a while for the Seattle native to get to that point though - when he was first infected many of his former friends turned on him and drove him out of the ganger scene (at that time he was a ganger first and a doctor distant second). However, he's proved himself to them over the last few years. In large part because he lives entirely off his work - feeding exclusively off the flesh and essance which his patients are sacrificing on their own for cybernetic replacements. Still, a touch of the former negative view of his infected status still lingers.

Though Phoenis doesn't run with the gangs any more, he still runs the shadows from time to time. The extra income helps support his free clinic, which in turn helps him feel he is attoning for his nature. And most runners consider having someone on hand to patch them up, particularly someone with a rep for being tougher then stone, a good thing, even if he is infected.

This week on E! True Simstories...

Hollywood's been buzing over the extremely contriversial decision by the academy to accept several nominations for the outlaw sim-series "Shots and Shadows" and its renegade star, "Gwydian the Blade" for this year's Simmie awards. So it should come as no suprise that on this week's episode we'll be talking about the imfamous Gwydian himself.

Gwydian, born Gwen Stevens, is an old Hollywood hand, born here in the hills. Most of our viewers no doubt recognize his father as well known tri-D star and leading man Rob Stevens, but his show bussiness roots reach back even farther through his mother's side - Marie Barrymore ne' Stevens is the daughter of Drew Barrymore, a prominent 2-d starlet from around the turn of the century, and Drew's own ancestors were involved in film as well. With such a family, its only to be expected that the young Gwen would be involved in the biz from a very young age, and indeed he was staring in his first comercial at at 4. He went on to play supporting roles in the hit tri-Ds "Ray and Charlie" and "The 3 Stoogies - Zombified" followed by a reoccuring part in "Throk Kill!" as the lovable Vex - his first sim.

A number of minor parts followed, but it was while shooting his first big-budget sim at the tender age of 17 that Gwen's life would change. Taken captive by a group of 4 shadowrunners as a hostige while they tried to franticly work their way out of a busted run, Gwen was held for over 3 days... and kept his sim-rig active and recording the whole time. Released after the runners made good their escape, Gwen spent several weeks in seclusion recovering from his ordeal... and with the help of a few friends, editing the sim file down to a two hour broadcast. The release of "Inside with the 4" on the one month aniversery of Gwen's capture took Hollywood by suprise - and the critics by storm, breaking countless sales records and holding the number one box-office gross for nearly 2 months after release. And from these begining, "Shots and Shadows" was born.

After the release of "Inside with the 4", Gwen retreated from public life and from work for several years. In hindsight, its now clear he was already planning his new role and preparing for the demands of the life he had chosen for himself. Then, on the two-year aniversary of the initial capture, his family offically filed a missing person's report, claiming he hadn't been seen or heard from for more then a week. The same day, the first "Shots and Shadows" sim - "Gwydian Arrives" was posted annonamously to the Matrix. It wasn't noticed right away, but sales being to pick up quickly, and by the 3rd episode, it was clear that the show was a hit in the making.

Now in its 6th season, the show is still going strong and somehow its renegade star always manages to stay just one step ahead of all those out for his hide. Its hard to say just how many people have seen "Shots and Shadows" at this point - its illegal almost everywhere to produce or sell the sims, so tracking accurate sales figures is almost impossible - but our experts claim the show is most likely the 4th highest grossing sim of all time. And it may soon move into 3rd. In some ways the show's sucess is a suprise - production values are low, with only a single PoV and lacking the full team most big budget sims use to clean up the recording. Worse, the recordings are all heavily edited to 'protect the guitly,' with Gwydian's fellow runners and employers blured out, and their voices generally done voiceover style. Still, Gwydian himself is never blurred and he makes no attempt to hide either his identity or those of his targets or foes. And the show truly possesses a gritty, real quality that can never be matched on a tame set, no matter how good the actors. Its many fans are likely correct in proclaiming it 'the ultimate reality show'

History:

Valkoinen is one of the oldest living shapeshifters. Actually born as a normal (well albino, but non-magical) raven in the years before the Awakening, he was 18 and nearing the end of his life when the first for-runners of returning magic swept the globe, giving him a new lease on life. At the time he was a pet of a Finnish Asatru Gydje, Yvinda, who was extremely suprised when her raven stood up and spoke with her.

The two of them continued to live together for many years after that, and eventually married. The also spent a great deal of time exploring the reawakened world of magic, as some of the founders of the modern Asatru magical tradition. However, in 1047, Yvinda passed on. For a time he was lost, but not long afterwards, he received a request from one of their mutual associates to take over minstoring to the Asatru in among the people of what would become the Karavan. Valkoinen, looking for a change of pace, took him up on the offer.

Now, at age 77, Valkoinen is failing steadily as age once again catches up with him. But however much his body might be failing, his mind and will remain as sharp as ever. Val has never really though of himself as a shadowrun. Instead, he's a problem solver, getting involved in things he feels need doing.

History:

Trask was born and raised in Dallas, the home state of Lonestar. As the son of two police officers, signing up with them seemed a natural course for him. He continued his inital career with them for 3 years in Dallas before transfering to their Seattle Division. He served there for a hair over 4 years before being caught in a massive explosion during a drug raid. He survived, but lost his right leg, left arm and eye, and several fingers from his right hand to the explosion. He was dismissed from Lonestar, but granded a permanent disability settlement. After 2 years on disability, he was contacted by Knight Errand, whose Seattle operations had taken a major hit. They offered to fund the cyber he needed along with some additonal upgrades in return for a 5 year countract. He accepted. After serving out his 5 year term, he transfered our of regular Knight Errand service, though he still retains a lot of contacts and friends there, and into Knight Errand's "retrieval" division -- read "bounty hunter". He continues to work there part time. However, over the years in law enforcement, things that once seemed black and white to him have all become shades of grey and while he still has a strong sense of justice, its not longer bound up so closely with the official 'laws' and these days he does quite a bit of moonlighting in the Seattles Shadows.
