Who said running the shadows was easy? Dodging bullets, swords, spirits, and spells just to name a few. Elves, Dwarves, Trolls, even the occasional Dragon can make any Shadowrun go bad.

PostSubject: Infected questions   Mon Jan 25, 2010 8:23 pm

Hello, I'm putting together an infected character specifically a Banshee.

Concerning the power mist form it states that the user's body turns into mist, it doesn't specify whether this is only the flesh or gear as well. Is there any official consensus or is it more of a GM decision?

Also could I get some GM's opinions if infected characters are as accepted into campaigns as say shape shifters and the sort?

Here is the book entry for the mist form power.

Mist forM
Type: P • Action: Complex • Range: Self • Duration: Sustained
The being can use the Mist Form power to magically transform its
body into mist. The mist has a Movement rate of 5 meters per Combat
Turn and can pass through any crack or crevice that is not airtight.
Systems that are proof against gases, bacteria, or viral infiltration will
stop a being in mist form. While in mist form, the being has Immunity
to Normal Weapons but is vulnerable to strong winds, which may push/
disrupt the mist and disorient the being. If the being is exposed to a
substance to which it is allergic, it is immediately forced back into its
normal form. Shifting in or out of mist form requires a Complex Action.

the best way i could see it handled, to balance things out: would be to have anything skin tight be shiftable, other wise it would have to be taken off, that way you can't argue that you could shift someone else.

Okay, thanks a bunch. I know how to build the character then to make the power usable. I wanted to avoid getting certain gear and have it just fall off when I used it.

I had a similar discussion with a friend of mine about my character Dromier, an eagle shapeshifter, she uses a glaive-style two handed staff so i have the stave transform into her wings when she changes.

That is an interesting yet effective solution. Plus it can also be explained through back story and role play.

Personally the way I understand shifting in SR is that only you, the character, are shifted. none of your gear is.

GMs can of course over rule this. Certain things may also stay (more or less) in place. Contact lenses, ear plugs etc if you still have a physical form. Comlinks could easily be carried in various shifted physical forms since you can upgrade them with gecko grip.

In the end i suppose it really depends on the gear in question.

Thanks for answering. I just found a sentence earlier in the section stating the powers are more guidelines and its the GM's decision if there were to be any deviance from the book. Of course said GM could take either of your opinions.

I'll make my character how I image him and make tweaks depending on the GM's opinion I guess. I'll avoid excessive items and use the ability only when necessary. I suppose it is beneficial that my character is a magician. Either way I'll deal.
