Who said running the shadows was easy? Dodging bullets, swords, spirits, and spells just to name a few. Elves, Dwarves, Trolls, even the occasional Dragon can make any Shadowrun go bad.

Currently running in Silver Fox

Joseph Kingston never had an easy life growing up in the New York Sprawl. His abusive father never gave Joe even the slightest encouragement. Joseph wasn't smart enough, fast enough, and he certainly wasn't good enough.

Joe awoke at the age of 14. At first he wasn't sure what was going on, he only knew that he never dropped the ball in sports again, and he was able to work with extra small objects while the other kids fumbled with the tools. Even faced with his incredibly increased abilities, his father would just grunt and ask, “What do you want? A meddle? Build radio on a battle field with shells going off over your head. That would be impressive.”

Joe's father was always talking about the military. He had attained the rank of Sergent before a mishap in a training exercise had seriously crippled his leg, and left shrapnel in his heart. The military discharged him and gave him a meager pension. It was obvious to Joseph that he would have to prove to his father that he was a better man than his father could have ever been.

After high school, Joe Joined the UCAS Army. He finished Basic Training, but he was nothing special. His father didn't even bother coming to the graduation. Within the year. His father was dead due to complications with his injuries. Joseph's mother implored him to continue with the Army, to honor his father's name.

Joe signed up with Special Ops. He was barely admitted into the program. His Sergent admitted that the only reason he was being considered was that during Basic he had developed the need for far less food than your typical soldier. So, he was trained to be a member of a four man team, and his training turned him into a rather specialized sort of soldier.

He was unable to complete the training. He just didn't have what it took. Not being able to handle the shame, Joseph's over all performance started to slide. After his mother died in '69 his performance got worse, he became unruly, insubordinate and an over all pain in the rear for every one. The Army gave him plenty of chances to clean up his act, but after being involved in a fist fight with a superior officer, luckily the officer started the fight, Joseph was dishonorably discharged.

He arrived in Seattle three days ago. Two days ago he purchased a Fake SIN under the name, Joe Livingston, a private security consultant. He let it be known to his supplier that he was looking for work.

Elf
Mundane

...And High Water

405BP

I don't a Birth Name. Heck, I don't have a Birthday. I don't even know what day I was activated! All I know is that I awoke a couple of years ago in a room full of steel machines, electronic monitoring equipment, and a a couple of guys in white coats. I think they were as startled as I was. At least, they seemed pretty shocked when I looked up at them from the table I was lying on and asked what was going on. That's when all hell broke loose.

A handful of people came crashing into the room, the white coats were suddenly on the floor, writhing in pain. I sat up and stared at them. I didn't know what pain was at that time. I found out only a few seconds later as I joined them on the ground, twitching and trying to scream.

I came to trussed up in a vehicle of some kind. Probably a van. I don't really know because my eyes had been covered. Not long after regaining consciousness, I learned of my immediate fate. The group that had come in was taking me to Mr. Johnson. I now know that wasn't his real name, but at the time I didn't even know it WAS a name. Mr. J had paid a lot of money upfront for my "safe" return. He claimed that I was his son, but had been kidnapped and was being held captive.

My extraction crew got suspicious when they realized the place I was being held was a genetics lab. (Talkative bunch they were) But they didn't want to hassle Mr. J too much as he was footing the bill. They turned me over to him quickly, collected their payment and were gone. I never even saw their faces.

Mr. J turned out to be one Petre Van Brunen MD, PHD, etc. He explained to me that I had been his greatest achievement a fully grown, genetically perfect meta-human. He had chosen the Elf meta type because, and I quote, "They are the prettiest."

So I was a lab rat. Conceived in a vat of goo, and grown to manhood in two short years. He told me had me extracted because he didn't want to share me with his former employer. He never told me who that employer was, because Petre Van Brunen died two days later when they came looking for me. He brought me down to a sub basement, and hid me there and I watched on video monitors as dozens of men stormed the mans and shot Petre. Then they searched the house. I was very lucky that they didn't find me.

After they, the police, and the looters had left, I came out of hiding. (Lucky me there had been plenty of food in that cubby hole) I had found a personal computer system and found some contacts of Petre's. I cautiously started calling them. Several had died years before, but eventually I found Doc. Not knowing anything about him, I lied and told him that I was Petre's son. I don't think Doc believed me, but I knew enough about Petre to pacify his interest. Doc had been one of Petre's Lab assistants years before, and now ran a Bio-Clinic in Seattle. Using some less than savory contacts, he was able to safely bring me out of Germany and to UCAS. It took a few years, and I picked up several languages on the trip. I also racked up a significant debt to my benefactors. One that has since come due. I'm not sure where I'm going to find the money, but at least I learned some skills in my two years of travels to help me try and earn it.

PostSubject: Amon Araneus   Sun Jan 04, 2009 2:53 am

For Consideration in Magus Opperandi

Nakagawa Eisukei was born on Yomi Island in 46. Eisukei was raised by a family of devout Imperialists. He was brought up to be the perfect Japanese Citizen, despite the treatment that his family received from both the Japanese troops for being meta-human and the equal loathing of the other metas that viewed the Nakagawa family as blood traitors.

Eisukei awoke while he was still rather young. In fact, he couldn't recall a time when the world of magic wasn't there. As a young child he would constantly test people for the truth. More often than not he found that they lied. He very quickly discovered that staying quiet about those lies was almost as important as knowing the lie. As he grew older, his ability to probe and influence the mind grew. He eventually grew capable of tricking machines as well as the human mind. Although that proved to be much more difficult.

When the new Emperor reversed his father's Yomi Island Decree in '62, the Nakagawas were amongst the few Metas to immediately move back to Japan. Eisukei was 16 when his family moved into a small apartment in Kokubunji-shi. A large suburb city in Western Tokyo. Having been born on Yomi Island, Eisukei's magical talents were missed by the more thorough scouring that occurred in Japan. When he arrived in Japan, his aura was masked by a very powerful Gaijin mage, that was visiting on business, who was in the line next to him.

Shortly after arriving Eisukei saw a rather peculiar raven. He noticed that it had been fallowing him home from school. Eventually he turned and stared at it. It stared back for a few minutes then flew down the street, stopped, and looked at him again. When Eisukei started to walk toward it, the raven flew further down the street, stopped and looked at him. He decided that it wanted him to follow it. The raven lead him to a small shrine in his neighborhood. The Priest in charge of the Shrine greeted Eisukei by name, and they sat down to have a long chat... that was how Eisukei found a both a teacher, Styx, and a Mentor Spirit, Kurasu-Sama.

He worked hard at losing his "Yomi" accent and developing his Tokyo dialect. Although, in stressful times and moments of surprise, he slips. His teachers were both amazed and a bit perturbed at how quickly he adapted to "true" Japanese society and education. While he didn't even come close to graduating at the top of his class, he was able to graduate on time, where as most immigrants from Yomi Island took a year or more to adjust.

Despite being a Meta, his good looks, exemplary gentlemanly behavior, and mystic abilities helped him became rather popular in school with the young ladies rather quickly. He used that to his advantage whenever possible. While he did receive a fair bit of bullying in school, he was usually able to talk his way out of bad situations before they escalated to violent altercations.

The crash of 69 wiped his whole family from the system. Greedy, Humanists quickly took advantage of the situation, and claimed they were illegal squatters. Those that were able to escape into the slums were the lucky ones. His father died in prison that winter, and his mother was accidentally shot in a store robbery when the clerk tried to take the go-gangers out. Some of his cousins still run around out there somewhere, but he lost track of them quickly after the crash.

Styx introduced Eisukei to the shadows as an errand boy. He would deliver packages to clients and pickup payments. It didn't take long to figure out that the deliveries weren't exactly legal. Styx would also occassionaly send Eisukei out to glean info on his rivals and the local thugs. It was on one of these trips that he met Kilowatt for the first time. Kilowatt was just getting started in the shadows. He would mostly hack security cameras to show looped footage while his "employers" walked in and took everything in sight. Kilowatt was in deep dreck with the local Star. They had him pegged for the mastermind, which was true. Eisukei was able to convince one of the detectives that Kilowatt was being threatened with death, and that that the real leader was actually one of his Sensei's rivals. Kilowatt has since become Eisukei's go-to-guy when he needs information. Kilowatt still doesn't trust Eisukei fully, as Eisuke always reminds him of how he helped him back in the day. But Eisukei has never stiffed him, so the relationship continues.

Before his mother was killed, Eisukei had taken on the name Amon Araneus, and had been known for getting things done. In that line of work, he had the foresight to pickup the use of a firearm. As his target coach said,"Peaceful is best, but lethal is permanent." Of course, Amon would rather people still be around for later use. Corpses usually weren't worth a whole lot once they were in the ground.

Recently, Amon has moved to Seattle with his Sensei. Things in Neo Tokyo had gotten a little too hot, and they had to get out of the city. He is currently in debt to the Yakuza for helping to smuggle them to the UCAS.

PostSubject: Fechín   Mon Jan 12, 2009 6:23 am

Fechín, BG to be added when I have time.

For consideration for A Time for Secrets

Born to the streets of Tír na nÓg, Tanaí ó Braonáin grew up taking care of himself. He learned to pick pockets, palm candy bars, and con anyone he could.

At the age of 14, Tanaí Awoke. It was an interesting night. He had just lifted some go-ganger's wallet. Hoping to find a credstick, or an ID he could fence. The ganger, however, noticed him before he got away clean. The chase was on! And, man, that ganger could run! They were dodging and weaving through the crowded streets, Tanaí dodged into an ally hoping to lose his peruser, when he slipped and fell amongst the garbage. Scared out of his mind at the thought of what was coming, Tanaí desperately wished he was someone else at that moment. ANYbody else!

The ganger, an ork, rounded the corner. Tanaí looked up, and saw the gun in the ork's hand. "Boi! Ya see a pointy eared-dreck come through 'ere?" Tanaí was very confused. What was going on? "Oi! I'm talkin' ta ya. Did ya see 'im er not?" Tanaí dumbly nodded and pointed further down the ally. The ork grunted and started walking into the shadows. "If'n ya know wha's good fer ya, ya'll get out ta 'ere 'fore ya see some'in ya should'n."

Tanaí unsteadily got to his feet and walked back to the street. What had happened back there? Tanaí happened to catch his reflection in the window of a shop on the street. He stopped, and stared. His ears! They were round! His face was dark, almost black! As he stood there, dumbfounded by what he saw, his ears bean to grow to points again, and his face was lightening back to it's normal pale, pallor.

When he was about 16, he got picked up by Ares while trying to steal some electrical equipment in the guise of a security guard that was sick that day. Unfortunately, the guard called while Tanaí was walking past the sec-desk. Ares placed him in a cell until some suit came down to offer him a chance. All Tanaí had to do was get better at what he did naturally. And, of course, do it for Ares.

To keep him from trying to run away, Ares sent him to a facility in UCAS for training. That training helped him get better at reading people, learning their habits, mimicking them. Tanaí also learned how to handle himself in a fight. Although, he never has gotten used to being in one.

Tanaí was on a run in a Renraku facility in UCAS, when the crash happened. He made two decisions. One, his target was no longer viable. The whole mainframe had crashed and probably wouldn't be back on line for weeks. Two, if he disappeared now, Ares would just think Renraku had found him.

So he bolted. It was better than going back empty handed. His handlers wouldn't have cared that the mainframe was dreck. He moved to Seattle, took up the name Fechín, made some contacts and started running the shadows again. Not like he knew anything else.

Mynx was his first contact when he tried to get work. A rival hacker had hired a go-ganger to break her fingers because she had under bid him for a job. Not knowing, she had gone out to celebrate at a local runner bar and had picked Fechín up for some good clean fun. While the two don't often speak about what happened that night, they have continued to work together to their mutual benefit. Mynx hasn't come clean about who she works for, but she did introduce Fechín to Freddy so he could get a new SIN, and she sends him info on jobs she hears about. She is even willing to do some oversight for him, for a price.

Now he just needs to pay his rent...

PostSubject: Ryuta Tokiwa / |<0d3VVr3|< / Wr3ck   Wed Feb 04, 2009 3:40 am

Wr3ck is a full-time hacker, part-time rigger
He's been laying low since his last run in Denver (Parlament of Thieves).

I come from the Barrens. Mixed Japanese, Chinese, and...well, that's really anyone's guess... including “Dad's.”Just another punk kid from the streets with no future right? Wrong! My Bro, Ryu made sure of that. Paid for it with his life. Sure I grew up in the Barrens, but Ryu made sure that I got a real education, especially after he figured out what I could do. I just wanted to follow in his footsteps, ya know... just be another ganger, but Ryu had other plans. When I was 10 he got my my first com. Man-O-man, the things I did with that. The (insert street gang of GM's choice) got their first real shot at being a recognized gang 'cause 'O me. Within a week of getting my PAN I had hacked the local Sec (bloody Lone Star) and gotten hold of a few IDs no one would miss. It's way easier to steal a living person's ID than a dead one, let me tell you! I made some cash, and the (insert street gang of GM's choice) started getting street cred real quick like. While my Bro wasn't too pleased that I was on the wrong side... he couldn't say much since his little Bro was pulling more bread than he was, and he was a lieutenant at the time! Ryu made me put all that money into savings. Said it would be my ticket out of the slums. Well, he was partially right.

Ryu was the only family I had left, until (insert sinister organization) took him from me. I won't rest until they pay for that.

Work? Yeah... I've tried that before. Name a tech job and I've done it. At least... I've done it on paper. That counts, right? By the time I was 16 I had Hacking down to such a fine art that I could buy just about anything I needed no matter what race, color, creed, or country I was supposed to be from. Granted... I couldn't do it in a face-to-face sitch. But, hey! we're talkin' 'bout skills right?

Ryu made me take all that money I'd saved, and a really great ID I'd snatched, and go to college. Of course I went into computer studies. The classes were so behind the times I stopped going. I figured it would be more worth my time to just hack the schools node and change my grades. Good thing too, it gave me plenty of time for my next favorite hobby. Of course, I didn't know it was going to be such a rush until I jacked in for the first time! Several of my buddies were drivers in street races. You know, drags for the non-sponsored? I'm into it real heavy like. The way I look at it, the only thing more exciting than busting into a high lev Sec node, is crossing the finish line first. I don't care what you may think, until you've pushed a vehicle to it's limit, the G's slaming you back into the seat, tossing you from side to side... *shudder* you haven't lived. I quickly found that I held a serious edge. If I jacked directly into the car's sys... I could almost sense what was happening. Lost my arm in a bad wreck while riding shot with a buddy. At least I was able to walk away. When cars started to get boring I moved on to the ultimate HIGH... Flight. Granted, I ain't so good at it, but man it's fun!

Most of my Eq I got through the (insert street gang of GM's choice)'s fixer. I made my own licenses and SINs and such. My piece-du-resistance is the head gear I'm rolling. Talk about fully loaded, and Corp sponsered... won't tell who though, don't want them locking down their HR Sec any more than it already is. Let's just put it like this, They think that they have a very expensive Spider on their staff... somewhere... ^)^

Time's have been hard since Ryu disappeared. The gang used to let me crash in one of their safe houses from time to time. I think it was more to do with my Bro's rep. than any loyalty to me. But, ever since the new management took over, it's been getting cold at night. I followed Ryu's trail to Denver... now I just need to see where it takes me.

I'll find the slots that took Ryu, and when I do...Well, let's just say, Pay back's hell, especially when the bill comes due and you find yourself in a cell with a big troll named Bubba.
