Who said running the shadows was easy? Dodging bullets, swords, spirits, and spells just to name a few. Elves, Dwarves, Trolls, even the occasional Dragon can make any Shadowrun go bad.

PostSubject: Forgotten Memories   Tue Mar 23, 2010 12:57 am

Lucky's Pub was a joke name. It used to be called Legends Bar and Grill, but after three fires, two bombings, and a rather nasty stink bomb, it was renamed. Much to the surprise of Lucky himself, it hasn't been touched since. Lucky is an ork, and used to be a runner. But time wears even the heartiest of runners down. Now he just runs the old pub and keeps a few rooms open for the "friendly discussions." Many runners know this place, and most of them know not to start anything here. Those that do seem to take long vacations alone.

The bar itself isn't too bad. The food is decent, the soycaf in the morning is good enough, and the beer doesn't usually taste like watered down piss. It keeps the lovely dingy, smoky atmosphere that gives it that ol' trid feel. The people who frequent the bar are either drunk, trying to get drunk, or waiting for someone. And every one of them looks suspicious. For those of you unfortunate enough to not have a cybernose smell the lingering scent of stale beer, blood, and vomit all mixed together with that pleasing gunpowder smell.

Lucky is at the bar, focused on cleaning the glass in his hands, even though it looks already clean. He has a gruff face, but is smiling, and has a large tattoo of a gold coin on his right forearm. You can tell, however, that he's wearing an armored vest under his shirt, even though it's hard to tell. And he more than likely has a surprise or two under the bar as well. He's old with a mane of grey, but he's ready for action at any time.

Mouser enters the bar dressed appropriately enough in relatively cheap clothing. Like the bartender, the subtle signs of an armored vest can be seen under his red long sleeved shirt, though much of that is hidden by the synthetic leather jacket he wears over top. He's presently in the process of pocketing the keys to his car, which he'd loaded up with his gear in the event this was one of those, 'leave right now' sort of jobs. Still he took things in as casually as he could manage, as well as kept a tight reign in on his aura, ensuring he had his making up. You never knew when you could run into some one with 'the sight' and thus have issues with them when they realized you weren't the least bit human.

He'd also learned a few months ago that there were other reasons to be on guard and slightly paranoid. After all, it wasn't paranoia when they really were out to get you, and in his case they most certainly were. Who exactly he didn't know, nor, in the end, did it even matter. Nor did the why, something he also didn't know, though something told him at the back of his brain that he did know why, if only he could remember. Given that he wasn't even sure his name was.. well his save for his apparent connection to the leather collar about his neck he wouldn't even know that much. The collar itself was one thing that really stood out about him, unlike his jacket it was real leather, featured a relatively prominent silver plate with the name 'Mouser' stamped into the front, and the back was fastened with a buckle that most anyone who knew a thing or two about magical compounds could readily identify as orchalium going by it's very unique colouring.

He waits near the entrance a few moments, trying to see if he couldn't potentially spot this 'Mr.B' though he doesn't hold out much hope of pulling that one off. He wasn't that good at things sadly enough, and he knew it. So instead he made his way over towards the bartender. "Looking for a fellow by the name of Mr.B." he says clearly and concisely in English. "Friend of mine said to meet him here for a few brews and some biz, they also said you'd be the one to ask. Happen to know em?"

The rumble-grumble of its engine echoed several blocks ahead of the massive custom chopper - stealthy, his ride wasn't. Phoenix pulled into his usual spot at Lucky's. Looked like the place wasn't to busy tonight. All the better for a meet. He popped the kickstand and stood, cracking his neck after the longish ride. Turning he headed over and pushed his way through the door.

His hulking form filled the doorway completely, looking more like a marble statue of a troll - or at least a statue of a troll if the scuplter had an unexplainable urge to stick spikes all over it at random - then anything flesh and blood. Combined with his favorite battered leather jacket, complete with his trade-mark firebird on its back and a white circle and red cross done in spray pain on its right arm, he wasn't much more stealthly then his bike. The doc glanced around, nodding politely to a few of the other regulars, who clearly recognized him in return. Most nodded back, but a couple turned away and one was actually brave enough to spit in his direction first. Phoenix just shrugged. He was used to it at this point.

Turning, he made his way over to the bar just in time to hear someone else asking after his soon-to-be employer. "Evening Lucky. I'm with the small fry," he jerks a massive chin at Mouser, "sounds like we're here for the same job."

The old ork just looked at the two for a moment before filling and setting down two pints of beer. "Wait here for the others. That's what he told me to tell ya. Have a drink, Mr. B already paid for 'em." He then went back to cleaning the already clean mug, not paying attention to the two standing at the bar. A few of the bar patrons looked over with renewed interest, but quickly averted their eyes at a quick glance from Lucky.

Mouser glanced over at.. at.. he didn't honestly know what he was looking at for a moment. It.. well it was as big as a troll, but beyond that what was before him looked very much like.. well.. not. So caught off guard by the others appearance was he that his feline slitted eyes went momentarily wide. Curriosity go the better of the shifter and he just /had/ to try and have a bit of a closer peek at the other man. And so he simply maintained that gaze a moment longer as he took a quick assssment of the man's? Aura.

(Asensing: Int 4 + Skill 1 +2 bonus from Phoenix's Astra Beacon flaw = 7 = 3 hits)

That only gave him even more cause to be curious. Awakened, very much so by the looks of things, addicted, infected with.. he wasn't quite sure what it was but something that wasn't at all good, and.. well he wasn't sure what else really. It all gave him pause and reason to consider the man before him anew from both planes Mouser existed on. "Does it now?" he asks after a moment, his slitted eyes narrowing again ever so slightly as he regains a measure of his composure and they refocus a little more upon the physical realm, though he kept his attention split between both. A niggling doubt in the back of his head prompted him to think for a moment at the very least that maybe the man was here for him instead, he wouldn't be the first, nor probably the last but he'd have to figure out the why at some point.

Still, an instinctual desire not to be afraid let him remain otherwise calm and collected. Besides it only made sense that there would be others for the job so that much was equally plausible, considerably more so when he gave it a moment to think it through. "I suppose.. introductions are in order then? But.. I'm sorry I must ask.. what.. are you?" he looks at the man with a tilt of his head, even gives a few sniffs. "I've ah.. never encountered some one quite like you before."

A jet black SUV set in the parking lot of Lucky's. The occupant's elbow rested on the open driver's side window. Using the rear-view mirror, Mimic adjusted his tie. Kat always seemed to tie it too loose without fail. Speaking of which, his pale gray eyes peered out the window, staring out into the night. His voice is monotone and nondescript. "What the hell is taking her so long?" It was really a moot question. Kat was always punctual. It wasn't that she was running late, but that mimic had arrived early.

He sighed heavily as he leaned back in his seat. He hadn't really wanted to take this job, but he was hard up for the nuyen. When you owed 45k to the Russian Mob, you couldn't exactly be picky when it came to employment opportunities. He knew he had been lucky so far. Sasha had kept the wolves from his door for a good bit, but there was only so much she could do. Her reputation was on the line as well if Mimic couldn't pay up. Mimic ran a hand over his smooth bald head. He couldn't worry about that, he reassured himself. With him and Kat's skills, he knew the money would come soon enough. If she would get her dreck in gear already.

As that thought ran through his mind, he heard the familiar rumbling of a Thunderbird Contrail.

"Don't know that many have." Phoenix raps his knuckles sharply on his arm, sounding like a pair of rocks thumping together. "I'm a troll, or so they tell me, but rather then a few dermal deposits, my skin's like stone. Been that way ever since birth." He pauses for a moment and flips a Matrix link over : http://dsc.discovery.com/videos/is-it-possible-wooden-man.html "They think its an awakened varient of papalona wode. The stone layer is thinner, at least where it doesn't spike, and easier to work with the the old version of the disease, but the growths are even tougher. Though events have made my growths a bit... thicker then they were. Anyways, call me Doc Phoenix."

The familiarity of the roaring engine below her always set Kat's mind at ease. It wasn't that riding the motorcycle was a peaceful event, if anything it forced her mind to focus. Up until two years ago she'd never driven a vehicle before, let alone one that could rocket down the highway at speeds up to 216 kilometers per hour, and just knowing she was in charge of her own transportation was a liberating realization.

Not that Kat drove anyway near that fast. In fact, she was careful to obey all the laws of traffic, no easy task for someone avoiding using any sort of digital assistance. But it did mean she took longer to get around town, which she knew bothered Mimic. They used to take one vehicle to jobs in the past, but the ability to have a spare getaway vehicle in case they needed to split up was worth the minor inconvenience.

Just on time, Kat took the final turn and pulled into the parking lot, immediately spotting Mimic's Range Rover. She guided the Contrail over, pulling into a spot a couple vehicles over, and dismounted without much ceremony. The heavily padded bike racing armor creaked as she removed the helmet, shaking her head a few times in a futile effort to fluff out her serious case of helmet hair. Then she turned to watch Mimic get out of his SUV, giving him a friendly nod as he walked over. "You 'ave not vaited long, I hope, yes?"

Mimic strolled casually up to Kat, as he locked and set the alarm on his Rover via commlink. Kat never let him forget the time they had to beat up some punk they found rummaging through their glove compartment. Mimic assumed nobody was dumb enough to dick around with their ride, but assumptions had a way of getting one in trouble. Or in the punks case, getting one put in the hospital.

A rare smile crept into the corner of Mimic's lips. Kat always dismounted her bike so gracefully, though she hated when he teased her about resembling her namesake. When he reached her he leaned in and planted a soft kiss on each of her cheeks. He shrugged and shook his head in response to her query. He adds a small Russian thickness to his accent. Kat had come a long way in her English studies, but Mimic could tell she was a bit self conscious of her heavy accent. "Nyet. Not long at all." With a bow, he held his hand, his arm pointing towards the bar door. "Shall we?"

Thomas Stillwell entered the bar, and immediately his face shriveled in disgust. Sure, he had encountered more than a few unpleasant sensory stimuli during the course of his life (particularly when he traveled to BTL dens to get his fix), but the smell of alcohol had never sat well with him. Still, he was on a mission, and it was best to act professional. He shook his head and attempted to ignore the odor as he straightened his armored business suit that had gotten a bit messy in the ten minute jog. Checking to make sure everything was in order, he pulled out his commlink and made sure it was properly shut down, and felt his pocket to ensure his pistol was still there. The bar seemed typical enough, drunks everywhere, so Thomas had no compunctions about walking towards the counter.

When he arrived, he decided not to confront the rather intimidating looking group that was already gathered there. Thomas instead turned his attention to the tattooed ork manning the bar. "Uh...maybe you can help me. I'm supposed to ask for a Mr. B and to tell Lucky..." He thought for a second about the exact details of the message. "...to wipe the dirt of his nose." The shades he wore allowed him to easily hide his gaze, but he still found himself purposefully attempting to avoid looking at the orks eyes.

The ork only grinned and put down a mug of coffee in front of the man. "Here ya go. The other two on the other end of the bar is waitin too. Supposed to be two more comin, so wait a few, will ya? Mr. B already paid for the drink." He then turned and walked away, still scrubbing the mug in his hands. Thomas notices there is a keycard underneath the mug of coffee.

Thomas glanced down at the cup, expecting the worse, but the smell hit him an instant before he recognized the sight. Looking up at the ork with a look of genuine gratitude, he said a silent prayer to the ork as he downed the cup of coffee. Simultaneously, he reached for the key card and put it in his pocket.

As he set the mug on the table, he looked at the pair that the ork claimed were his partners. They were certainly more...interesting looking than the last group with which he worked. Let's hope they perform better in the field, he thought to himself.

The needlessly formal behavior was a sharp contrast with their surroundings, eliciting a wry smile from Kat as she shook her head. But she knew Mimic wasn't just being polite, and she took a moment to breathe deeply, steeling herself for the meeting ahead. Then she looked him firmly in the eye, nodding confidently. "Da, ya gotov."

She walked with him into the bar, not letting him lead but certainly not pulling away either. Past experience had long since taught her to let Mimic do the talking, but she kept her eyes open, watching for any sign of danger or indication of an ambush. Even though she left her shotgun in the pannier on her bike, she was never unarmed, and as long as she stayed aware of her surroundings she was never without options.

Mimic gives Kat a nod of approval as they make their way to the bar. He holds to door open for Kat, allowing her to enter first. It isn’t out of some medieval sense of chivalry, but because Kat is better at taking a hit. He wasn’t being callous either; it isn’t like he wanted her injured. He just knew that if something happened she would blame herself.

As the smell of the musty bar hit him he grimaced. His sensitive nose absorbed every scent, and he held back his desire to balk in disgust. We walked beside Kat to the bar, and leaned forward. He scanned his eyes around the room for a moment before addressing the ork behind the bar. “Lucky I presume? My acquaintance, Mr. B, would like me to inform you to wipe the dirt from your nose.” His voice is cold and professional. Years of working with the Russian mob had made him quite used to the etiquette of secret confirmation codes.

The ork grinned at the two and set down a glass of water in front of Kat and a glass of red wine in front of Mimic. "Here ya go. Mr. B already paid for the drinks. Everyone's here. The room is 13 in the back. He has the key card for it." He nods his head to the guy drinking the coffee.

After swiping the keycard, the door opens up to a rather pleasant smelling room. All the smoke and oder is replaced by a small filtering system in the corner of the room. The room has 8 chairs and a long table in the middle. On the table is an area jammer, and upon entering the room all matrix connection is cut. At the far end of room is an elf, about 6 foot in height and with the usual slim build. He has silvery hair and amber eyes. His skin is darker than most elves, and he has a few scars. He's wearing a long duster with a dark red shirt, a pair of blue jeans, and black boots. You can just barely see the black collar of a full form body suit. He has a pair of goggles on top of his head and an old fashion Australian fedora rests on the table. Once the door shuts, he begins.

Hello there, good to see you at last. Please take a seat. My name is Virgil Blair, but you can call me Trigger. I'm a 'runner, just like yourselves, and I'm in need of a bit of help. The job pays 50k each, with 20 up front. It's wierd, but he seems to be rather upfront for a runner. Either he's very trusting, or he knows how to handle himself.

Mimic's eyes fell on Kat. He had reservations about such a generous offer. Such payouts never involved easy missions. He knew he would definitely have to earn this payout. He didn't have time to accept soft jobs though, he needed that nuyen and he needed it fast. He waited for the familiar nod of conformation from Kat before accepting the job. They had a nonnegotiable stance. Unless both of them were perfectly comfortable with a job, it was turned down.

The room was a literal breath of fresh air. Thomas looked at the elf, and observed his scars with respect. There was little that could be done to disprove this man's claim that he was indeed a runner. He glanced at his would-be compatriots as he thought over what the elf had told him. He was, unfortunately, inexperienced in the realm of negotiation with a Mr. Johnson; he had always left that task up to Honest Abe.

So, for the time being, Thomas was completely silent, content to merely observe how the others handled the offer.

Phoenix pauses, clearly counting heads, then pulls up not one, but two chairs, sitting across them. They still both creak alarmingly. He leans forward on the table, which lets out its own creak of protest, and looks over at Trigger. "Well, the good news sounds good indeed. Perhaps you should let us know the bad, before all those nuyen go to our heads."

Well, I can't give out too much just yet, but the objective has some heavy security around it. Don't worry though, I'm sure you lovelies will be able to handle it though. Based on the way he speaks, you'd have to guess Virgil was either Australian or British, but you can't really tell. He just keeps smiling however. Again, sorry about this, but until you accept the job, I'll have to keep my mouth shut.

The sentiment the rest of the group was feeling and, in some cases expressing, was not lost on Kat, but if the amount surprised her in any way she didn't let it show, merely leaning in closer to hear the explanation. High-paying, dangerous jobs weren't an oddity to her, although she didn't understand why the Johnson, Trigger, had stopped his sales pitch there.

"Zees amount, very 'igh, yes?" Although she was addressing Mimic she said it loudly enough for everyone to hear. Then she turned to Trigger, her Russian accent thick but understandable as she asked, "Vat type offer must be taken before beink heard?"

Mimic nodded approvingly. Kat had gone straight to the heart of the matter. Her cut and dry attitude was one of the things he loved about her. The fact that the hirer didn't want to disclose the details meant one of a few things. Either the objective of the job was reprehensible, or he didn't trust the group to not pursue the opportunity on their own without and cut him out. Neither of the prospects were particularly appealing to Mimic. He did not enjoy being used as somebodies wet buy to deal with a mess that they felt was too low for them to handle personally, nor did he like somebody implying he couldn't be trusted. He eagerly awaited a response that would soothe his worries.

Trigger's smile disappeared so quickly if you blinked you missed it. His hand gripped the chair, but he didn't yell. In fact his tone of voice was quite controlled. The problem is that if word of this gets out, an opportunity will be lost, and many will die. And I cannot personally move on this, or else I'll have some serious heat on me. I'm risking a lot as it is. I assure you that the mission is not overly dangerous. The money is more to keep your mouths shut. Accept the mission, and I'll tell you. If at that point you feel the task is too much, then I'll have no choice but to either detain you or shoot you. If I only have to detain you, I promise you 10K just for hearing me out. He sighed and sat down. Also, if you do well on this job, then I'll have more for you. He then frowned and looked like he was going to regret something. I know some of you can't afford to reject such an offer. He was staring directly at Mimic.

Mouser listens attentively, seeming to be actually interested in Phoenix's explanation. This being, and these things, these were new to him. Or so he thought, though it was hard to say when one couldn't remember anything that happened more than 6 months ago. So in some ways, everything was new to him beyond the basics of day to day life. As he heard things some just seemed to click as being 'right'. Others as wrong some how, or just simply new. This at least seemed new, and thus drew the shifter's curiosity. "You can call me Mouser." he offers up in exchange at the introductions. He seems to be ready to ask more questions when the others arrive and they soon find themselves moving off to the meeting room itself. He takes a seat, leaning back in it and looking at the others in both worlds, curious about them, and their apparent J for the day. (Assensing tests will be listed later when I get back home from my trip late tomorrow night.)

The unknowns didn't bother him, though he didn't know it he'd been trained not to fear such things, to just.. follow along. Given that he didn't officially have anyone to guide him in this situation, he simply sat silently and watched the others to see what they did. He would at that point, simply follow along. Besides it's not like he had much to loose. He was a man with a forgotten past, he didn't even particularly care what the past was, the future and the now was what was important. Besides, if these people could be trusted to watch each others backs, maybe they would come to his aid if some one came after him. Safety in numbers.

He didn't know where he'd heard that but it seemed true enough to him.

Phoenix thinks about it for a moment, then strugs. "I need the money. I'm in. Provide we aren't going against any of the local go-gangs. I've too many friends there - not worth it no matter how nice the payoff."

Mimic's face showed no sign of change when he heard the mention of his debt. Inside, however, was a different story. A storm of rage was brewing behind his calm pale eyes. If Kat caught on to what this Trigger guy was alluding too, she would confront him for an answer. Despite all his skills with deceptions of the tongue, Mimic could never get on over on Kat. Somehow she always saw right through his lies. To have, probably the only secret he had managed to keep secret from her, come out like this... He steeled himself. That wouldn't happen. He wouldn't let it happen.

His dry voice expressed no emotion. He wouldn't give Trigger the pleasure of knowing that he rattled him. "We're in." He spoke only for him and Kat of course the others would have to make up their own mind. Part of him wondered if they turned it down and had to be "eliminated" if he could nab their share.
