Who said running the shadows was easy? Dodging bullets, swords, spirits, and spells just to name a few. Elves, Dwarves, Trolls, even the occasional Dragon can make any Shadowrun go bad. |

Wide variety of Thrift-store cloths with a couple nice outfits for the club) 1 Squatter Neighborhood (gang for security, some local barter / certified cred shops. Mostly abandoned office buildings converted into apartments by adding a few basic ammenities. Near the edge of Redmond Barrens) 3 Middle Security [3] (Deal with local cybered gang on friendly terms, biometric locks, alarms, and surveillance installed. Decent enough matrix firewall and security monitoring) LS Qualities: 1 Friendly Neighbors (neighborhood sticks together, gang included) 1 Workspace (Nessecities + 2 for space available, entire top 3 floors) -1 No Privacy: Astral (old buildings with no astral barriers ever in place, and just an old crazy street shaman that wanders by now and then) Silver lives in an "apartment" consisting of the top 3 floors of an old brick 5-story office building on the border between Touristville and the Barrens proper. She's on good terms with the local gang and neighboors, and has a few surveillance-based security upgrades of her own installed. The area has basic utilities still by some miracle. The few small family shops tend to use an equal mix of barter, favors, and certified cred. She's fixed her place up with a few simple appliances like a decent soy processor and a cleaning drone, but for the most part it's pretty spartan with just some cheap and scavenged furniture filling it. Amusement consists mostly of poking around on the Matrix, but she squeezes in a few nights out at the clubs, or watches the Bolt Bashers engage in some home-brew urban brawl matches (especially after catching the latest game on thier pirated trid).

| Felisha "Silver" Smith Backstory - Spoiler:
Felisha "Silver" Smith Personal Blog files... Feb 12, 2071 Mood: Reflective Music: Sonicona - It's Great to be Dead You know, looking back at my life, I have to wonder about the world I live in. Wonder about the series of events that has lead me here. It's a crazy world out there... Growing up, if I'd known then what I know now... well, it's probably just as well I didn't. I don't suppose there's anything special about my childhood. The Psych programs would say otherwise I'm sure, but those hacks just try to lay blame anyway. Dad was a security officer for Fuchi, Mom was one of the chefs for the Arc. They were nice people, always did thier best. I wonder sometimes if they'd be proud of me? My brother Jack was always the family pet though. He was a couple years younger then me and he was interested in all the sports and guns and hunting and everything else Dad liked. He did great in school, he always did as they told him, the dream child. Me? Heavens no. I actually asked why. A Lot. Turns out authority doesn't like that question. Go figure. Still, I did good enough in classes to graduate (ahead of schedule no less). Not that they ever wanted to recognize it. I think they let me graduate just to get rid of me I always was a pain in the school's collective hoop. It's not that my folks didn't care about me... they just never seemed to have much time for me, and never understood any of my hobbies. It's like I was in a world all my own.
I loved computers for one, and they never got that. The Matrix was my playground even back then. It's how I got myself into mischief I'd poke around the local net just to see what all I could do in there. The vice- principle was steamed when I got caught one time in his personal matrix node. Oddly enough, he let me off the hook. I'm just sure it had nothing to do with the large databank of adult entertainment he had in there ;P The pervert. And let's not forget the time I reprorammed the lunch menu to be more "interesting". Aaahhh the good old days.
I did get someone's attention though. I found out later Dad had been bragging on his smart little Matrix-Diva to some of the guys in the lab when he was on his breaks. CATco gave me a job offer in thier software department. How could I refuse? I was young, I had a great-paying job dropped in my lap to play around with my favorite toys for a living, and I didn't know any better. I worked on security stuff mostly. I had a knack for making and breaking protection systems. Like a great big puzzle game to me really. We were making some of the most cutting-edge stuff on the market in that lab. It was like living the dream!
Ever heard the expression "Too good to be true"? How about "No dream lasts forever"? Some runners hit the lab while I was working late one night. That was my first experience of being on the wrong side of a gun. They shot the other tech in the head, figured it would make me more cooperative. They were right. They wanted the latest software we'd been developing. What was I going to say? No? I took their decker in and showed him where it was. Funny thing though, I noticed the silent alarm being tripped, but security forces never showed up.
The runners decided to use me as a human shield on the way back out. Nice of them, wasn't it? I heard the click-humm in the hallway just before the blastwave caught me. I don't remember the next few seconds beyond searing pain. Next thing I knew I was laying in a heep with blood covering one eye. Couldn't feel anything much down my back or limbs. But I could see the mostly unscathed decker running wildly for his life. Security had just showed up around a corner and fired a few rounds at him, pinging bullets off the walls. I knew something was up. They're better shots then that. I'd seen them practice. Then I passed out. Massive blood-loss they tell me. I thought I saw the gas vents open though, so I'm not so sure.
Woke up a few days later in the Arc's infimary. Shiney new chrome peeking out at me from under the hospital sheets. Docs said I just barely pulled through. The company was covering the medical exspenses, too. Glad I got the top-notch benefits package . Let me tell you, waking up with a metal body can be rather jarring on a person's view of life. Of course on the bright side, I don't need to worry about much skin-care anymore. Took a while to find some floral-scented metal polish though. They kept me there for a few more days for "observation". Gave me plenty of time to think back on what happened. It would be a while before I pieced it all together though. First I had to get back to my job. But you know what else struck me as odd? My family never came to visit the entire time...
They put me on a different shift, in a different lab facility after that. The psych folks in HR said it would likely trigger some post-traumatic issues to put me back in my old job what with the break-in and my new condition. My, how considerate of them. Janus would've been proud. I poked around on the system after that trying to find out what really happened. I had hunches, but it wasn't enough to go on, and CATco sure wasn't helping matters.
The pieces started falling into place when I finally found a way off the Arc's net and happened across some newsplats from the days after the incident. CATco called it an accident. With no survivors. The obituary? Yeah, I was in there. I dug and dug after that. Carefully as I could. In the end, I found out the runners had been expected. It was all a setup to leak the software that actually had a virus inside. The blast had been timed to let the decker escape, and it just happened to mean the anti-personel mine they used was right by me when it went off. They let the techs stay in there, knowing we'd probably die, because getting us out of thier would have tipped off the runners.
But why keep me around? Why not really let me die? Why go to the extra effort to bring me back when I posed a risk to thier little charade? I found that answer in my employee records. Turns out I was a long-term project for them. They'd been tampering with my DNA while I was still in the womb to enhance my mental capacity. Did my parents know about this? No wonder I was one of the "best and brightest" in thier little IC-building division. They kept me around because it was far cheaper then trying to replace me. The cold hard reality of the Corporate mind came settling down on me after that. We are all just numbers. Cogs in the machine. The illusion of caring is only there to keep us happy and productive. They tried to bury me to keep too many questions from spoiling a lovely little PR campaign. Turn me into a mushroom so they could keep getting thier little toys out of this obedient little designer-baby cog. Screw that drek.
It was about this time that the matrix was hitting Crash 2.0 and the corp war with Ares was flaring up in earnest. Lucky for me, too, because CATcowas getting pounded hard. They were too busy dealing with everything else going on to notice my little side-trips in the still-rebuilding system. I kept a close eye on the war, just waiting to see how it played out. Before long I saw the writing on the wall. Cross was going down. Time to make like a rat and leave this festering ship before it sank completely. A little account manipulation netted me a nice nest-egg to make my early "retirement". I was just wrapping up the removal of most of my personnel records when the new office complex I was in got hit by Ares. I didn't have time to be clean about it, so I just let a nice data-eating virus loose in the system and then got my hoop out of Dodge before getting caught in the crossfire. Again. I didn't have any more limbs to lose, after all.
Alas, while the virus did clean out the rest of my personal data from the system (along with half the node), it also caught several of those transactions I'd spoofed. My nest egg was only pocket change to what it used to be. Sometimes I write things too well for my own good. =/ I still had some left, at least enough to live on for a while, but nothing spectacular. And to make matters worse, it couldn't get to the back-ups of my SIN files that were offline at the time for upgrading to the new wireless setup. Still, the old SIN registered me as "dead" so it was close enough for me at the time.
So where does a ghost in the system go for work when the money runs dry? I found my new meal ticket while poking around on some shady networks. Turns out I had a fan. Believe me, I'm as shocked as you. Fast Jack had run against some of my work before and was impressed. He (I assume it's a he anyway) sent me a message. We chatted a bit, and he reccommended me to someone he knew in Seattle with thier hands in the local market for talent like myself. I thought it over a long while. I could make myself a new identity after all, just try to live a simple life. But thing is, I'd been there before. I knew what being a cog in society felt like. And it just wasn't for me. I may not be able to rid myself of the corporate machine entirely, but I did have a chance to work it on my own terms.
Halen. That was the contact's name. He's a fixer with a lot of high- tech connections. Helped set me up with some new gear and tech I'd be needing in my chosen line of work. Even gave me my street name. First time he saw me in person, said I looked like I was made of silver. It just stuck after that. Traded some info on IC I'd been working on back at Cross for a little extra nuyen and found myself a nice little place to call home on the edge of the Barrens along Toursitville where the matrix connections had been updated.
The local gang paid me a visit the first night there, a big bunch of cybered up bikers calling themselves the Bolt Bashers. *snort* They seemed a bit taken aback when the new girl on the block walked out a mass of metal. They loved the chrome look, let me tell ya. Instant respect. Made a good deal with em too. They stay chummy with me, I make sure they all have free access to every pay network on the Tri-D. They know a few good chrome-clubs too. Nice to have a bunch to relax with that don't do a double-take when you walk in wearing something that shows a lot of "skin". Wish some of em could dance better though. They're rough around the edges, but a good crew when it counts.
I met Neth a while later at one of the clubs where he worked as a bouncer. I was getting harassed by some brain-drained bozo and he helped me out. Even morons get the hint when a chromed-up troll tells em to leave it seems. Pity, as I was hoping to see what the fragger's face would look like if it was caved in. I caught up to Neth after he got off work that night to thank him for playing my knight in shinging skin. We've been chums ever since. He's the real practical type, and decided that since he couldn't be there to keep me out of trouble all the time, he'd just teach me how to do it myself. I learned a lot, but I was ready to jump up and try to ring his foot-thick green neck a lot of times. The guy's a pain in the hoop to learn under. I think he used to be a drill seargent with a hernia in a former life.
It's been about 2 years since I got out of Cross. I've been working small data jobs and trying to get a good new nest-egg ever since. Rennovated the top floor of my apartment building with some of the cred and it's starting to get homey. The pocket money's running out though. Luckily, I've finally finished my masterpiece, so I'm set to try to crack some of the more lucrative options open. But I've got a long ways to go before retirement. This crazy life can be addicting though. The thrill, the danger... ... Y'know, I'm not sure what's crazier, now that I think about it. The world I'm in, or my own brain. The nutty shaman lady down the block tells me the machine corrupts my soul in a sea of black. Looking back... she may be right.
Felisha "Silver" Smith Personal Blog files... Mar 23, 2071 Mood: Nostalgic Music: CrimeTime - Star Duster
I just got off the cell with Shiela. She got in some of that new citris- scented polish I've been after! She was in a nostalgic mood today, and we talked for hours. It's really only been a couple of years since we met, but it feels like we've known each other for ages.
I first heard about her from some guys at the club. My elbow was getting a bit worn and the servo was making a little noise, so they gave me her number. Said she was a real wiz with the chrome, though a bit odd. They were right on both counts. The girl runs a nice little clinic in Bellevue. Snazzy shop, it's even setup to do the custom jobs if you've got the cred. I was a bit surprised she accepted, ahhh "questionable", patients. I found out later that Shiela's got some syndicate friends that help supply her and keep trouble clear of the clinic. Thankfully that also means her staff knows not to ask questions when someone comes in with a severe case of kinetic lead poisoning.
But I digress. Shiela. Yeah. She's a real cyber-nut. Knows her stuff and enjoys her job. A lot. Maybe too much. Probably sleeps with the latest tech update like a teddy bear. Not that I'm one to talk She came in to give me the once-over that first time and started chatting about this and that, always relating to the cyber she was going over somehow. When she started putting the data into her system, I noticed it was in pretty sad shape. Well, by my standards anyway, I guess it could be called good by most people. I offered to show her a few tweaks to boost it's performance and we talked more while I did it. We hit it off from there on, two tech-heads having thier own little nerd-fest.
She still pesters me now and then to get upgraded to some custom cyber. Says it'll be a lot easier on me and more comfortable, not to mention better- looking. I know she's right, afterall I finally got that sleep mod she reccommended and I haven't felt this good in years. But I'd have to get a lot cred together first. And that means finding more profitable work then the small-time data-lifts and sim-pirating.
Questionaire - Spoiler:
1. What is your character's Sex?
Female (Human)
2. What is your character's physical size?
5' 11", ~ 160 lbs (due to all the cyber)
3. What is the color of the character's hair, eyes, and skin?
Hair: Varies by her mood (it's fiberoptic) but most frequently a platinum color Eyes: Steel Grey Skin: Chrome from the neck down, lightly tanned on the head.
4. What is the character's general appearance (i.e., How does he/she dress, etc.)?
With a largely prosthetic body, Silver tends to dress modestly when leaving her home neighborhood to do something other then visit a Chrome Club. Loose- fitting comfy cloths are the norm. Her hair is roughly shoulder-length, straight, and left loose. And while her cloths tend to be off-the-rack thrift -store variety, they are typically well-kept and clean.
5. Where was the character born (City, State, Hospital Name)?
Born and raised in Cross Applied Technologies' primary Arcology in Canada.
6. What is the character's date of birth?
September 16th, 2047
7. What was the character's family life like?
The odd child out. Silver didn't share interests with any other family members. While her parents cared, they never really knew what to do with her.
8. Has the character begun his/her own family?
Not likely in the foreseeable future.
9. Where or how was the character educated?
The CATco Arc's private school and on-line matrix academy.
10. Has the character ever done anything else for a living?
Corporate IC research and design for Cross before and immediately after the Crash of '64. After coming to Seattle she's mostly done some small-time freelance hacking work to keep ends meeting.
11. What are the character's political and religious beliefs?
Politically, they're mostly a bunch of two-faced liars who's only interest is in preserving thier positions so they can milk more money from corp lobbies. Sure, there's a few good apples, but it's hard for them to really make any difference in a system of corruption.
Religiously, she believes there is some sort of higher entity. after all the crap that happens in the awakened world, who's to say such a being doesn't exist? And that it has a sick sense of humor if it actually meddles in her life.
12. Describe the character's moral code. Include how mercenary he/she is, whether or not he’ll/she'll kill innocents, etc.
Silver's really not that mercenary, viewing running as just freelance work by another name. Killing innocents is not high on her happy list. that's the sort of crap corps pull that stuck her with a metal shell for a body in the first place. She even takes it as easy as plausible on security mooks. Her dad is one, after all, and she's lived on the other side of the fence. Most are just doing thier job to support thier family and don't deserve a bullet.
13. What are the character's goals?
Get her body all fixed up and her cyber upgraded to at least Beta grade, per Shiela's suggestion for life-long health. Save up a tidy bundle and retire in moderate luxury.
14. Why does the character run the shadows? (Why does he/she run the shadows still, rather than getting a "real" job?)
Silver's been a wageslave (and a *highly* paid one at that) but playing the corporate cog just doesn't suit her. She enjoys calling the shots in her life too much to sit around in most day jobs. And the others tend to be too boring anyway. It could be the cyber talking, but since her "accident" she's felt an itch for more excitement.
15. What kind of personality does your character have? This should not necessarily be obviously stated in the background, as it is more important for actually playing the character, but it may color or add mood to the history.
Snarky. She's got a strong sarcastic streak and a somewhat dark sense of humor. And after the realising the betrayal of her old life, she deeply values her handful of real friends and will go to the wall to help them.
16. What special qualities does the character possess? This does not refer to skills, but rather to other things, such as how she gets along with people, whether he/she plans ahead, etc.
Silver is a numeric / pattern puzzle-nut and great at cracking them. It's a big part of why she got into hacking in the first place.
She's also become fairly easy-going with meeting new people since moving to Seattle. She's made friends from high-end black clinic doctors to low-life street gangs. As long as you don't come out of the gate treating her like trash, she'll give you a shot to prove yourself.
17. Are there certain things that the character can't or won't do? Why?
She won't run against Ares Macrotech's Canadian holdings, since her family works there. And she won't turn her back on her small handful of close friends.
18. What things, people, or ideas does the character hate?
Silver hates the corporate mindset of treating people like nothing but numbers to be used, manipulated, and thrown out whenever it suits the Bottom Line. Living in an artificial body that was a result of that mindset with a brain and DNA helix twisted to suit it's needs just serves to keep that loathing fresh. This attitude also tempers her running, such as preffering non-lethal and less-destructive methods to lessen the impact on the people.
19. What things people, or ideas does the character love?
Shiela is her best chum in the world, and Silver wouldn't trade that friendship for anything.
20. What is the character's name? Give both full birth name, as well as nicknames, street names, etc.
Felisha Alexia Smith, "Silver" on the streets Her fake SIN is registered under the same name. "Odd quirk, eh? Same name so the system must have glitched and cross'd the references. I've run into this before. I think that girl's like, dead or something. Wierd."
23. Come up with a reason for why the character became a shadowrunner. (This very often will tie in with #22. This is not the same as #14, but rather why he/she started running the shadows originally. What led him/her to it?)
Legally considered dead on her official SIN leaves her lacking in normal choices. Combined with the draw of freedom to deal with the corporate machine on her own terms made it something of a no-brainer.
24. How did your character come to know his/her contacts? Contacts are an important part of Shadowrun; decide how and why you know them.
Check out the back-story.
25. Does the character have a SIN? Does the character actually use it? Or is the character one of the SINless masses? This may be affected by the character's previous employment.
She has a SIN, but it lists her as deceased. And lacking real retinal or finger prints and not having much of any surface biomass left to leave DNA from, it doesn't come up too often.
Instead she uses a fake SIN: lived in Seattle all her life, born a quadrapeligic, parents died to go-gang violence, thier Wills instructed that she be given her prosthetic body with the life insurance money so thier daughter could live a normal life. Currently listed as a freelance dancer looking for work.
26. Is the character a full-time shadowrunner? Or does the character lead a Batman-like double existence?
Full-time runner. Though she tries to get by on the small-time (and low-risk) stuff when she can.
29. Which person(s) or group(s) do you respect the most?
Honest people. They are so terribly rare in her life, that being honest earns a lot of respect in her book. One of the reasons she gets along so well with the local Bolt Basher chrome gang is they're up-front and don't bother with pretense. Even if they are rather coarse and rowdy.
30. Which person(s) or group(s) do you fear the most?
None in particular stand out.
31. What is your favorite color?
Glossy Onyx
32. What is your favorite food and/or drink?
One thing Silver yearns for from her old corp days was the real Parfait in the cafeteria. Soy-based and faux-fruit just isn't the same.
33. What place would you most like to visit?
The Tir. Maybe find some cute elf boy-toy with a serious chrome fetish while she's there.
34. Which person(s) or group(s) are you most loyal to?
Friends first, family second.
35. What pastime (that you participate in regularly) gives you the most enjoyment?
Club-hopping with the Bolt Bashers or Neth at various Chrome-friendly joints. It's a big relief to be out and about and know the stares aren't from disgust.
36. What pastime (that you participate in regularly) gives you the least enjoyment?
Cleaning the parts of her 3-story apartment that the vacuum drone can't reach.
37. What annoys you the most?
Overly slick types. Including most corp managers, televangilists, and that guy on late night trid selling Nano-Clean[tm]
38. What (if any) is your favorite form of art?
Sim-sense romance novels. Feeling more alive then machine is a great escape for Silver.
40. What do you think is your characters best quality?
Her Loyalty, once earned. She'd litterally go to the ends of the earth for her treasured friends if she had to.
41. What do you think is your characters worst quality?
Her tendancy to not let people in. Her old life turned out to be a giant lie, after all, so she's prone to keep everyone at arm's length, albiet with a friendly smile.
44. What is your most treasured possession (and why)?
Her Commlink and Sim module. Tools of her trade, passport to the world at large, and her greatest escape from the restrictions of her normal life.
49. Does the character have a good luck charm? What is it, and why?
Silver's of the mind that any luck charm she might carry would be Bad Luck after some of the drek that's happened to her.
50. What type of music does the character like?
Ork Grunge, Neo-tech, even a smattering of classic rock from the 2020's
Random notes - Spoiler:
Other notes:
The cyberware suite used on Silver was first implememnted by Crash Cart as an alternative to using a clone replacement body. It's cheaper then maintaining a clone and readily available for emergency use compared to the time needed to grow suffecient replacement parts. It didn't take long for virtually every mega to adapt it's own version of course. Some go full synthetci, but most leave just the head and perhaps the torso as synthetic to save on costs. Male versions also exist, simply replacing the breast implants with penile ones.
The Bolt Basher gang, lead by Silver's contact Nutz, is a local gang that settled in her neighborhood some time before her arrival in Seattle. The make a living providing actual security for thier hood (as long as they think you're ok), and running some BTLs and booze. They've also got some loose connections with the Crimson Crush and helped them transport some goods during thier main relief efforts after the Crash of '64.

| Melehara Imiri AKA: Meleficent Background Story - Spoiler:
"My Life as a Reluctant Cat Girl" by Melehara Imiri Memoire Rough Draft Begining audio recording...
My parents were among the first elves born during UGE back in the early '10s in Mexico, that's Aztlan to you younger types. With the outbreak of VITAS though, thier families both fled the country while mama and papa were still newborn babes. They eventually wound up in Seattle, far from thier birth land, where thier families settled down to raise thier unusual children.
Life was rough for them growing up. The uphill walk to school both ways through 2 feet of snow. You know how parents are about thier childhoods. They found work where they could to help pay the bills. Mama worked as a restraunt hostess, and papa found a job as a chauffer for a downtown limo service. But they made it, and they eventually found each other and decided to have me. I've never been entirely clear on how they met though. Every time I ask, I get a different story.
My birthday was something of an occassion. Not just for my family, it was also the day that Tir Tairngire was founded in 2035. We didn't live there, mind you. We lived in an elven ghetto south of Seattle that eventually formed part of Tarislar. I was only 4 when the Night of Rage swept through town. All I really remember is mama and papa taking me to hide with a few other families in some old cellars. But the after effects really galvanized our neighborhood and lead to a huge amount of distrust for humans and authority.
I think that's part of why I eventually joined the Star on my 18th birthday. There had been a lot of headway made already in meta rights, and I wanted to be there doing my part to bring everyone together. And I believed that with more of us in Authority, we'd make progress faster. On the less high-ideals side of things, the thought of riding around and busting thugs was kind of exciting *giggles*.
And let me tell you, after growing up in the rougher parts of the sprawl, I had me a few scores to settle. Especially with some of the bigotted human gangs that would ride in to harass us. So imagine my surprise when I discover that the chief in charge of my precinct is a Humanis member. That prick made my life hell every chance he got. Still, his hands were a bit tied up in the Star's contractual obligations for equal opportunity employment. And seeing as I was a latino-descent elf and natural-born UCAS citizen *and* a woman on top of it, I was the HR department's gold-mine of representative equality.
I worked the beat for years with Doug. He's a great guy really. Honest, hard-working, and cares about the people he's paid to protect. What you actually want out of a cop, in other words. Cute, too. We became close friends on the beat, and still are to this day, but we never went any further. Not that you could ever convince his wife of that, of course. The only looks I ever got from her were angry glares. It's not my fault I was born gorgeous and exotic. Still, I *tried* to make peace with her for Doug's sake. I think it mostly worked, but she still gives Doug the old hairy-eyeball anytime she finds out he's meeting me for lunch. I moved out from my parent's place, too. Found a nice little apartment in Renton where the rent was (barely) affordable. Felt good to be on my own.
On the beat I showed a knack for talking to people, and eventually someone higher up the chain then Chief Bigot noticed and decided to put me in the Negotiation training attached to the riot control squad. They figured I'd have an easier time talking down crowds, saving them a bundle in hazard pay. I finished the basic training pretty quickly and then they put me in for some upgrades. Wanted me to keep up with the rest of the riot and SWAT guys if it came to it. I was just back on duty a couple of weeks when the Comet showed up.
I was sent out alongside a riot team to break up some unauthorized flash-mobs of revellers in downtown. We arrived at the site and setup a basic cordon in due order. No sooner had I picked up the voice amplifier though, then I doubled over in pain. One of the boys thought I'd been shot and started shooting tear gas into the crowd. It turned ugly after that. I couldn't do anything but curl up in the fetal position until I passed out from the pain...
Woke up a couple days later in the hospital with Doug leaning over me looking like he hadn't slept the entire time. Silly goose, no wonder the wife's so suspicious. I was glad to see him though. Everything ached, including something I didn't remember having before. A quick peek under the covers confirmed it: I had a tail poking out under that drafty hospital gown. I believe the ensuing conversation went something like this:
Me, "Uh, Doug? What happened, how long was I out, and why do I have a _tail_?!" Doug, "Partner, you don't know the half of it." Me, "Care to expand on that any?"
Then he pointed me to the mirror. Staring back was a woman with long and volumous dark grey hair with 2 big black stripes running back, violet cat-like slit eyes, and grey skin with black tiger stripes running down the back and sides. I thought it was a prank at first until my brain caught up with that whole tail thing. Then I realised those stripes weren't just skin, I actually had a really soft downy _fur_ down the sides and backs of my limbs and body, acounting for the darker shade of grey there. The ears felt longer then they used to be too, but small things like that were just kinda floating in the back of my head behind one over-riding thought...
Me, "Oh you have GOT to be kidding me. I'm a fraggin' cat-girl?!" Doug flashed his famous Hey-cheer-up! smile, "Aw, I think you're cute." I shot him a dirty look. Doug, "Ok ok, here's the deal. The Doc doesn't know exactly what's going on with you right now. He said your genes looked like they were doing a circus act. And you're not the only one, either. Cases like yours are scattered all over town with folks suddenly changing in wierd ways. I saw one of the others on my way up. Trust me, you could do a lot worse then the tail."
He was right, of course. SURGE had hit, and I was one of the luckier expressions. I may be a freak of nature, but I'm also #1 on a lot men's fantasy lists. That wasn't much consolation at the time, however. Chief Bigot used my condition to place me on administrative leave and the botched riot control to start leveraging me as a "health risk" to the company, and I was a little too freaky looking now for the Negotiation team, too. I couldn't do much from the hospital bed. Doug was furious about it, but I calmed him down. At least the Star payed my medical bills and gave me a full severance package. Legalised hush / please-don't-sue-us money doesn't seem so bad when you're on the recieving end.
Mama and Papa wanted me to come home after that. While I love them dearly, I enjoy my independance a lot, and I was still trying to get comfortable in my own skin again. So I stayed on in Renton, living off my severance pay for a few weeks as I got a grip on things. After that, I figured I'd need to get some cred flowing in again so I started up my own little Private Eye biz. It didn't quite go as well as I'd planned. Most folks thought I was some sort of fetishist with too much cosmetic surgery. A lot of guys that came in thought I was a new adult party service for private eyefulls. I guess I can't really blame them for not taking a cat- girl seriously. I know I wouldn't have just a month before. Still, I did squeak by on the few jobs I got from those without enough to hire the "real" detectives. Mostly insecure spouses wanting to know if thier partners were cheating on them (and they usually were).
Work was really sporadic though, and one month I was coming up short on rent money when I saw an add for Amature Night at a strip club downtown called The Black Tie. I knew it from my days on the beat. It was a clean joint, no touching the girls, mostly tired wage-slave types in attendance, and strictly legal. After so many men had been looking to hire me for stag parties or escort, I figured I may as well give this a shot and see if I could make enough to cover the rent this month. No harm in a little one-off stripping, right? Right.
There were a lot of girls and even a few guys that showed up that night. We signed up for our temp house accounts with this little geek of a decker at the back entrance. He about flipped when he saw me, commenting how I looked like an old comic character named "Tigra". I took his word for it. He was about to enter that as my stage name for the night but the stage manager intervened and suggested Shadowcat instead. I just shrugged and went with it, but the name kinda stuck with me ever since.
So I got up on stage that night and did some exotic dancing for the first time in my life. I had no skill at it, but I was cute, exotic, and flexible. Naturally I was nervous at first, but something just clicked and I got into it, had some fun playing with a few guys near the stage, and generally made a good time of the experience. After the show, the manager came up to me with a credstick holding my tips from the night. He started talking to me and asking a few questions like where I got the great cosmetics from. You should have seen his eyes light up when he found out I was *au naturale*.
He offered me a job on the spot. Said I had great potential and could go far in the biz if I worked at it. I checked the balance on the credstick as I thought it over. More then enough to cover the shortfall in the rent. As much cred in one night as I'd been making in most weeks from my PI gig. I smiled, shook his hand, and asked when I started.
Over the next year, my PI biz slowly faded into obscurity as dancing took up more of my time. The money flowed in, enough to help the family out back home and still have plenty left to make my place good and comfy, and I got pretty good at dancing, too. But skill alone can only get you so far in this biz, and most girls wind up getting some enhancements to help draw in the customers. I was no exception. While most got the obvious like breast implants, I played up my "authentic" appeal since it was the reason I got the job in the first place.
The club sent it's girls over to Aisha's body clinic for work. She's a big tough orc with a thick Japanese accent, but she does good work and her place is clean. She also gets in some "clearance" wares from the hospitals. At first I just got some cheap helpful bioware like the dietware to keep my curves (I still have an old cop donut habit) and the anti- grossness mods to keep me smelling nice on stage even after working up a sweat. As time went on, and I saw good returns on the enhancements, I gradually started adding more. And wanting to see returns on those a bit sooner, I bit the bullet and picked up a few Clearance items too. In just 3 short years I had subtly modified my body to be a dancing machine, pulling off crowd-pleasing stage moves with the endurance to keep up the pace, and some extra help in the scent department to keep those front-row seats tipping at thier best.
Things were going along great and I probably could have happily continued working there for decades, but the world had other ideas. When the Crash of '65 hit, the Black Tie fell on hard times. Thier own systems had issues, but the killer was the loss of a lot of the wage-slaves that made up the customer base as thier jobs vanished in the corporate restructing. In less then a year, the place had the choice of closing shop or selling out to the syndicates for less savory entertainments. Either way, I wasn't sticking around.
I was in the middle of trying to find work that didn't involve "Happy Endings" and not having much luck. With the bulk of the local economy in a slump right after the crash and everyone still scrambling to pick up the pieces, there weren't as many opening for a cat-girl like myself in the few clean independant clubs. That's when I got a call from an old aquaintence back in the Tarislar neighborhood. They needed a hand fending off some predatory gangs and he was hoping an ex-cop like myself could be of some assistance. A few of them had even chipped together a reward for whoever could help them out. And seeing as the Star was too busy elsewhere to take care of business, I headed to my old stomping grounds.
After checking around with the folks in the hood, I had a pretty good idea of what I was up against. Some disgruntled pro-humanis goons were repeatedly coming in and trashing the place. they'd even burned down old man Thomas's house already. I was able to get our local watch group organized enough to keep an eye out for the gang and get the rest to saftey. Even had a handful that could handle a gun well enough. Next time they showed up, we were ready.
We drew them into a dead end street and ambushed them. I gave them a chance to surrender first and leave in peace. As I'd hoped, they turned me down. In the fight that followed, I came to appreciate my dancing mods for a lot more then working the stage. They made my rusty old LoneStar training pay off big time. The gang leader and the one who'd burned down Thomas's house went down right off the bat to the townsfolk up on the roofs with thier rifles. Then I waded in with an old stun baton to keep the remainder too busy to shoot back. It ended quick and I got Doug to get a wagon down to pick the goon squad up. Having a couple townies with video recorders at the fight to prove self-defense made it a simple case.
I seriously considered turning down the reward they gave me, but as Old Man Thomas pointed out, I could use the money, and they were happy to help me out. My old pal Lucas even arranged a special "Thank You" gift from a friend of his that worked at a Zoe boutique downtown. My very own suit of sleek chic Second Skin armor.
After that, I still tried to get by normally. Landed some booth- babe jobs at conventions and expos now and then, and even got a part-time dancing gig for "meta-night" at a decent nearby club again. But it wasn't what it used to be. Got me to thinking about that job I did for my old hood. I knew there was a lot of work like that out there, I'd even caught a few doing some of the rather unsavory ones when I was on the beat. The reward from my old chums made a big difference for me, and the pay rate's even better then dancing these days, if a good bit more risky. Taking down the gangers did bring back some of the old thrill working for the Star too.
In the end, I started looking back into some of these shadier jobs. I need the cred to pay the bills. The work is exciting and challenging. And I get the occasional chance to do some real good where it's sorely needed. I got talking to Lucas and found out he has a lot of connections around town that might be able to help me find some more work. The guy's a lot more mercenary then I remember, and real business-like these days. But he's gotten me a few leads, and helped update the rest of my aging gear. I don't think Doug would approve of course, but I believe he'd understand. Not that I plan on telling him anytime soon.
42-Questionaire - Spoiler:
1.Where was the character born (City, State, Hospital Name) *Seattle Metroplex, Medical center near Tarislar
2. What is the character's date of birth? *May 12th, 2035
3. What was the character's family life like? *Mel's parents were hard working blue-collar elves. No siblings growing up, but spent a lot time with the neighborhood kids. The family loves each other, but with conflicting workschedules, they rarely got to spend a lot of time together. What they did get, they made the most of, however. Melehara picked up her "make the best of things" attitude that way.
4. Has the character begun his/her own family? *No, much to her parents' frustration as they'd really like some grandkids. She's had boyfriends off and on over the years, but none have lasted. Given elven longevity and Mel's love of her independance, she's not likely to settle down anytime soon either.
5. Where or how was the character educated? *Mel was mostly home-schooled, but it was a community effort between the families in her home neighborhood. A lot of the elven kids had private classes taught by the townsfolk. She did well though, and earned her GED at 18 before applying to Lone Star.
6. Has the character ever done anything else for a living? *Mel worked for Lone Star for about 8 years as a beat cop and briefly as a negotiator before expressing high-level SURGE. *After that she worked for a while as a Private Detective with little success before getting into Exotic Dancing.
7. What are the character's spiritual and philosophical beliefs? (Religion, political views, etc.) *She's a pretty practical type that doesn't spend overly much time contemplating the divine. She does respect the beliefs of others, and is generally a bit curious, especially about any old elven mythology. *Politically Mel leans heavily for pro-meta rights and on into sapient rights in general post-SURGE. *Philisophically Mel views life as a "take it as it comes" adventure. As an example, she wasn't realy happy when she SURGE'd into a cat-girl since she's rather unimpressed with the idea of being a living cheesy stereotype. But in time she got used to the situation and has made a living for some time exploiting it.
8. Describe the character's moral code. Include how mercenary he/she is, whether or not he’ll/she'll kill innocents, etc. *Mel spent years trying to work as one of the Good Guys with the Star, but the experience left her a little bit jaded. Still, she aims to help innocent people out when she can, leading to a prefference for hooding and non-lethal solutions. Soemtimes though, the world just won't let you do what you like, and Mel's learned to go with the flow at times like that, trying to tilt the rudder a bit instead of getting washed away fighting the current, as it were.
9. What are the character's goals? *Mel basically just wants to live a comfy life, make sure her extended family is taken care of, and have fun with her friends. One day she may settle down and start a family, but that goal is far over the horizon still.
10. Why does the character run the shadows? (Why does he/she run the shadows still, rather than getting a "real" job?) *For the time put in, running tends to pay very well. She views like the modern day version of the old king crab fishermen. Short bursts of hard and dangerous work for big payouts. Someday she may get a big break in the dancing world, but only the tiniest fraction of dancers get big and famous enough to make money like you can get from the shadows. Mel's hoping to do some runs and save up enough to retire in comfort for a few decades.
11. What kind of personality does your character have? This should not necessarily be obviously stated in the background, as it is more important for actually playing the character, but it may color or add mood to the history. *Friendly and outgoing, practical-minded
12. What special qualities does the character possess? This does not refer to skills, but rather to other things, such as how he/she gets along with people, whether he/she plans ahead, etc. *Mel is particularly good at rolling with life's punches and finding a way to carry on with her life. She's open-minded and keeps a sort of flexibility in her perspective.
13. Are there certain things that the character can't or won't do? Why? *She won't murder an innocent bystandard in cold blood. Note she's not a pacifist. For instance she'd snipe a guard down if she had to, with the opinion he knew the risk of death when he signed up, just like she did when she joined the Star. But Joe Public on the street? No, she'll try to keep him out of the line of fire. *Despite being an exotic dancer and having frequent offers from would-be clients, she refuses to get into the actual brothel scene. To her, it's the difference between appreciating beauty, and being intimate. And you can't buy genuine intimacy, in her opinion.
14. What things, people, or ideas does the character hate? *Bigots! Racists / Specists that utterly refuse to listen to the idea that something other then themselves could be as good.
15. What things people, or ideas does the character love? *Mama and Papa! *Excitement. Be it danger, innocent fun, or whatever. A deffinate roller- coaster junkie.
16. What is the character's name? Give both full birth name, as well as nicknames, street names, etc. Real name: Melehara Imiri Dancing name: Shadowcat Street name: Meleficent (though some old aquaintences like Lucas still call her Tigra)
17. Determine what your character used to do, before becoming a shadowrunner (very important, and not really the same question as #6.) *already covered in #6
18. Decide why your character left his/her old job, if he/she had one. (Also important) *Forced out of the Star after SURGEing by her bigotted chief *Old dancing job went under during the Crash of '64, though she still dances part-time at a new joint.
19. Come up with a reason for why the character became a shadowrunner. (This very often will tie in with #22. This is not the same as #10, but rather why he/she started running the shadows originally. What led him/her to it?) *She first entered the shadows doing some Hooding for her old neighborhood. She stayed for a combination of the money, the excitement, and the odd chance to do more good for people forgotten by the powers that be.
20. How did your character come to know his/her contacts? Contacts are an important part of Shadowrun; decide how and why you know them. *Doug was Mel's old partner during thier beat cop days. They've stayed friends ever since. *Aisha runs the body modding clinic used by a lot of the dancers at Mel's first gig. She does good work, and Mel stops by now and then for a check-up *Lucas is an old aquaintence from decades ago growing up in thier little corner of what became Tarislar. He's also the one who got Mel her first shadow gig hooding for thier old home town. *Phae-Lin is Mel's clubbing-buddy. They met on the night club circuit and enjoy induldging thier mutual interest in the night life and the dance floor. They also keep pace with each other's love lives and other gossip.
21. How long has your character been in shadows? *Mel has been doing sporadic shadow work for about 4 years now. Since she also does dancing and some local model work (aka: booth babe) she hasn't actually done as many runs as that time might otherwise imply.
22. Does the character have a SIN? Does the character actually use it? Or is the character one of the SINless masses? This may be affected by the character's previous employment. *Mel has a legal SIN that she actively uses for her daily life. But she also possess a fake for whenever she's doing Shadow work.
23. Is the character a full-time shadowrunner? Or does the character lead a Batman-like double existence? *Runner by night, Dancer by, er, night. She only works one night a week at a local strip club, but making that happen involves a lot of time on her own selecting new music, practicing new routines, and picking out new outfits to keep things fresh.
24. Which person(s) or group(s) does your character love the most (this may refer to ideologies rather than individuals or groups. This applies to the next questions through #28 as well). *Clubbers. She enjoys the night life, and finds the clubs are often more open-minded about people.
25. Which person(s) or group(s) does your character hate the most? *Humanis, Alamos2000, etc.
26. Which person(s) or group(s) does your character respect the most? *Her home town folks in Tarislar that made a rough slum into a good home.
27. Which person(s) or group(s) does your character fear the most? *Devil-rats. ROUSs with intellegence and a mean streak a mile wide!
28. To which person(s) or group(s) is your character most loyal? *The home town people in Tarislar.
29. What is your character's greatest goal?
30. What do you think is your characters best quality?
31. What do you think is your characters worst quality?
32. What is the most important thing your character has ever done?
33. Which religion (if any) does your follow? Why? *Mel doesn't really follow a particular relegion. In her mind, a lot is possible in the awakening, and most of the faiths show some merit, why limit yourself to just one narrow belief set?
34. What is your character's most treasured possession (and why)? *Pookums. A beat up old teddy bear with 1 missing button eye and a patchwork repair job on one leg. Her favorite toy growing up, and the toy she carried with her during the Night of Rage as her family hid from the mobs. It reminds her of her parent's love and of the hate the world is capable of at the same time.
35. What is the Character's current relationship with her family? *A little distant as Mel developes her shadow life and fortifies her independance. She does keep in touch by e-mail but mama insists she never calls enough.
36. If the character's family is still alive, what do they do, and where do they live? *Mama and Papa actually just opened a little corner resteraunt in thier home neighborhood of Tarislar.
37. Where did the character learn his/her Skills? Be as complete as possible. *Growing up, Mel learned to keep a sharp eye out, not just for trouble, but opportunity. She also ruled at hide and seek. And even back then she was getting the hang of talking people into doing what she wanted. *Mel learned most of her skills during basic training at Lone Star. Fighting, First Aid, and basic detective work, not to mention driving skills. *Her time at the Black Tie taught her a great deal about dancing, and sharpened her perceptive skills further to spot good clients or avoid trouble.
38. List any past serious relationships that your character has had, and give a brief overview of the relationship. *Mel's had a number of boy friends in the last 20 years, but only a few stick out of the crowd. *Markus was a slick corp man on the rise. They dated for a while during her beat cop days, but it evetually fell apart when she wouldn't leave the job to be his quiet house-wife. *Arthin was her "bad boy" phase. A member of the Ancients she hooked up with about 6 years ago. It was based mostly on physically attraction so the relationship imploded in a matter of months. Still, he was one of the more honest guys she's dated, being up-front about wanting some hot arm candy to flaunt. *Kryton was Mel's first and last experience in Matrix-originating relationships. A sweet guy she met in a virtual club, thoughtful and caring... they got along well and she was even considering moving to CalFree to join him. Then they met in the flesh the first time and she found out Kryton was rather butch lesbian ork girl. Mel changed her online handle after that and only seriously considers dating after a face-to-face now.
39. Beyond your character's relationship with family or lovers, how would you describe his/her social life? *Very active. If she's not working or paracticing, she's likely out on the town, having a couple friends over to watch old movies, or catching up on the latest gossip feeds.
40. Where does your character live? Why does he/she live there? (I'd like a physical address, including Neighborhood, City & State. Google maps is a good way to get this.) Mel lives in a cosy apartment in Renton a little ways back off Route 515. 417 Mapletree Way, Apartment 16B (second floor, left side of a 4-apartment building)
41. Does your character have any quirks or idiosyncrasies? *Mel's a bit picky about keeping her hair / fur clean. Complicated somewhat by how long it takes to actually shampoo and condition all that. *She's also gotten so used to her prehensile tail that she often uses it to gesture during conversation.
42. Does your character have any enemies? (Include anything from an arch nemesis who's sworn to kill you and all you hold dear to a bartender who holds a grudge for that time you slipped out on the tab.) *Mel's managed to avoid making any serious enemies. There are plenty of 2- bit thugs in jail that wouldn't mind getting thier hands on her, but they're not exactly free, and even then they only know her from pre-SURGE. She's also got a few heart-broken or disgruntled ex-boyfriends that never quite got over the breakup like they should have by now.

Mama Mouse Mentor Spirit: (based off Great Mother mentor spirit) MM Seeks to live in harmony with Man and Nature both. She is a nurturing aspect that cares for her "family" of close loved ones. When shelter is unavailable, however, she will fight with all her might to survive or protect those dear to her. Advantages: +2 dice for Health spells, +2 dice for Spirits of Man Disadvantages: -1 die to Combat Spells
SR Companion 20 Questions: - Spoiler:
* = 500 BP Orc Underground additions
1) What's your heritage?
Pip looks to have some classic asian lineage in her blood from her facial features, but it's not very strong. Beyond that she really doesn't know much about her biological parents. As a baby she was adopted by Mama Mouse, a free spirit that runs a small orphange in the Redmond Barrens. She's grown up knowing spirits as equals to metahumanity and treats them much the same.
2) What would your parents say about you?
Her adoptive mother would say that she is proud of Pip. But that she's also a little worried for her now that Pip is moving out on her own more. she's a good kid, if perhaps a bit too trusting of thw world at large now and then.
3) What historical events does your character remember?
Not much really. She's only about 14, so even the Crash of '64 is merely a memory from early childhood. Add to that how she's grown up in the barrens and the outside world doesn't seem to have a whole lot of bearing these days.
4) How did you get into shadowrunning, and why?
The orphans scavenge for whatever they can, and grow or build what they can't for the most part. But even so, they still have to bring in money somehow, and sometimes thier normal items like selling excess crops from the garden just isn't enough. Pip is also old enough in Mouse's eyes to start living on her own, so Pip is trying to get enough together to finish fixing up a little hideout of her own into a suitable home and magic lodge. And with no SIN and panhandling being on the slow side, she's doing a little shadow work.
5) What is you living space like?
Pip's home is in Mama Mouse's orphanage. It's a secluded old warehouse in the Redmond Barrens that's been converted into a small dormatory. In the grounds outside is a big garden where most of the food is grown, inside are the main living areas, bunk rooms, etc. One of the rooms is Mouse's lair / magic lodge. Pip has spent a great deal of her time there growing up as she learned magic under the spirit's tutelage. Power for what little electronics they have comes from solar panels on the roof and a windmill out in the garden. Fresh water is in relativey short supply. Water spirits help with the garden, and there's enough for drinking, but not much else. So spells like Healthy Glow are important when you haven't enough water to do things like bathe.
Pip also has a private hideaway she's building. A remote old set of storage units that she's slowly converting into a new home. She's barely got more then the most basic scavenged ammenities for the moment however, and is hoping to expand it soon.
6) What are your beliefs / convictions (if any) and why do you hold them?
Pip believes in trying to find harmony with man and nature, as Mama Mouse teaches. To her, spirits are as ordinary as any metahuman, and she makes friends with the good ones and avoids the mean ones just the same. She's big on waste-not want-not, no doubt a result of growing up in what amounts to a communal farm. She doesn't really care too much about politics. At her age and living in the barrens, they've never really touched her life in a meaningful way. Pip finds a lot of religions kind of quaint in what she feels is thier limited view of the world.
7) what do you think is your most annoying / worst trait?
She's a little obsessed with "cute" things. From acting younger then she is to fawning over cute critters (or pictures / toys / etc of them) she is easily distracted by cuteness. all well and good when trading your produce with a local vendor, but likely to raise some eyebrows from fellow runners.
8) What megacorp do you like the most? the Least? Why?
Wuxing is the highest on Pip's list for thier relative friendliness and progressive attitude towards her spirit friends. Even so, it's still a Megacorp which means profit first, harmony, rights, and everything else a distant second. Still, it's showing hope.
Aztechnology is at the every bottom, trafficing with very unfriendly spirits and evil magic as a matter of course.
9) How did you come to know your contacts?
Mama Mouse adopted Pip when she was still a baby and has raised the human as one of her own daughters ever since. The exact circumstances of the adoption are somewhat vague, but the impression Pip always had is that they died and MM took her in after that.
Gizmo is one of the other kids from the orphanage. He's maybe a little older (hard to tell since none of the orphans know thier actual birthdays) but the two basically grew up together like brother and sister. They get along pretty well. He helps her see things from the technology point of view, and she shows him the spirit side of things.
*Mama Grogsby is a powerful troll voodoo priest that runs an awakened- favored resteraunt in the Orc Underground. Her and Mama Mouse go way back, apparently, and Pip has been learning some of the basics of magic (summoning in particular) from Grogsby a few years back. Ever since, Grogsby (aka: "Grammie!") has been friends with Pip, who runs a lot of errands between Mouse and Grogsby and generally helps out where she can. Pip also learned most of her Or'Zet from Mama Grogsby. These days, she's known to drop in on 'Grammie' from time to time bearing some fresh produce from the orphanage's garden to trade for a fresh dinner (and a lot of stories and catching up over the stove / table).
10) What do you do on a day off?
Her favorite pastime is exploring. She likes seeing what's over the next rubble pile or around the next street corner. She'll usually head out chaperoned by a summoned spirit friend local to the area she's exploring. Pip also spends time telling stories to the younger orphans about her adventures, or relating old stories Mouse told her. And every now and then Gizmo helps them all setup a movie night and they get some real pop-corn from the garden, a friendly fire spirit for the popping, and enjoy the show.
11) How did you come to learn your skills at your present profeciency?
Pip spent most of her youth in home schooling under the free spirit, Mama Mouse. Mouse taught her a great deal about magic, spell-casting, and the nature of spirits and the world. Pip recently proved herself in her basic talismongering education with the successful completion of her own Counterspelling focus. And Pip has always had a natural knack for summoning and speaking with spirits. Mouse says it's that potential that first inspired her to teach Pip.
Pip has also picked up some people skills from her trips to the surrounding neighborhoods to do some trading, and from her explorations into the rest of the city proper. She doesn't go there as much though, looking at too much AR gives her a headache.
12) Are thier any moral limits on what jobs you take or things you'll do?
Pip's a pretty good kid at heart. She doesn't like to hurt people or see them hurting. She's not above liberating a few unappreciated items for someone who'll enjoy them, but don't expect her to go killing anyone to do it.
13) How do you view your magic?
Mana is as much a part of the world as air or water. Pip just has the ability to use it better then most, learning how to channel it to different affects.
Everything has a 'Pattern' to it. Other traditions may call it a formula, but the point remains the same. The Pattern is woven of the various threads of memory and experience and form that make up the subject. Magic is evoked by reaching out and tweeking those patterns, or by crafting a new one that interacts with the others on it's own.
Spirits are everywhere and in virtually everything, but most are kinda sleepy. She's not summoning spirits, but rather channelling mana to allow them enough energy to "wake up" and interact more directly. In essence, she is empowering the spirit's Pattern. And she never "binds" a spirit (the practice is akin to slavery in her eyes). Rather, she asks the spirit for some favors and does her best to repay it's kindess. A "Bound" spirit for her is just a friend who's given her the spirit equivalent of it's phone number for a while.
14) How do you view augmentation / implantation?
Mouse views augmentation as a sad thing where man loses a part of himself. Pip feels somewhat less strongly, and wouldn't pass judgement on a person based on it. But she does feel it's something of a shame that some people seem to feel more harmony with machines then nature.
15) What do you think of ordinary life and those who live it?
The ordinary life of the mundane masses isn't anything to envy in Pip's mind. They spend so much time in thier AR, media, and such that they miss the world around them. There's so much more out there but most seem content to live in thier virtual cages, eating thier processed soy paste, and repeating the same thing every day. If anything, she feels a tinge of pity for them.
16) What would be a bad nightmare for you? Any deep-rooted fears? Why is it so frightening to you?
Losing her ability to speak with the spirits would be crushing. even if she still had all of her other magic, it'd be hollow to Pip if she couldn't talk to all her spirit friends.
She also sometimes has nightmares about intensely evil things from deep Astral space coming to devour her.
17) What is your 'sacred object' or 'close one', and how did they become so important to you?
Pip's a pretty caring person, so it's hard to nail down favorites. Mama Mouse holds a special place in her heart as both mother and mentor. Making MM proud is a driving influence in Pip's life.
*Squeak (Pip's Ally Spirit) is a recent addition to her family, and instantly one of her closest friends. She's been friends with Squeak for some time, but only recently been able to help her into this plane from her home metaplane. Previously they communicated on temporary summons or watcher-spirit messages like a game of phone tag of astral Text Messaging. Now they get to spend life together like best buddies.
18) What did you want to become as a child, and what are your goals now?
Pip's goal growing up was to be good friends with lots and lots of spirits and people. That much hasn't really changed, although reality has tempered it somewhat. Her current goals are to build up her lodge and improve her skills to meet MM's highest standards.
*She's already well on her way after successfully initiating with the summoning of her new ally, Squeak. But her greater potential is still lagging, and she has a long way to go.
19) What does your character look like, and what inspired her choices?
Pip is a young teenage girl, and if you could get her into normal cloths, it'd be easy to tell. But she typically dresses in loose-fitting scavenged cloths. T-Shirt, jeans, overcoat, tobogan, and fingerless gloves are her typical attire. She often has a backpack full of talislegging tools over one shoulder and a walking stick in her other hand. The telling difference between her and most street-kids is that she's very clean and not sporting offensive odors (unless she's just been digging around for reagents).
*Squeak frequently rides on her head under her over-sized tobogan, but may run around under the baggy overcoat, too.
20) How did you get your street name?
Pip was always a little on the runt-ish side. MM must have had a sense of humor about it or just thought it sounded cute when she named the little girl Pip. It's not her birth name, but she doesn't know what that is anyway. Pip is the only name she's ever gone by.

SR Companion 20 questions: - Spoiler:
1) What's your heritage?
Venessa is from a mixed heritage of Japanese and American. Her mother was from a wealthy family in Japan, and her father was a rising business star in Seattle. Venessa got some of the best of both worlds for pop-culture physical attractiveness, but she also picked up a lot of the colder demeanors from her very business-like parents.
2) What would your parents say about you?
If they were alive, well, it depends.
Mother always thought Venessa wasn't quite lady-like enough and is even the one who suggested she get skillwired upon discovering she couldn't properly ballroom dance just 2 weeks before a big benefit ball. And if she'd known about the romance with the lowly computer tutor or the shadowrunning now? Oh heavens, what ever has her darling girl become?
Father, on the other hand, thought Venessa wasted too much time on all these frivilous pursuits. He was grooming her to take over the family's matrix security firm and thought she wasn't investing enough time in learning proper business management for it. He's the one who insisted she study Matrix systems under a tutor he hired. Ironically, the tutor was a hacker that taught her more then daddy had bargained for. If he'd known about the romance as well, he'd have probably had the hacker killed for despoiling his daughter.
In the end though, both of them loved Venessa and only wanted to see her succeed. They just never agreed on how.
3) What historical events does your character remember?
Haley's Comet came around right about the time her interest in boys was starting to kick in in middle school. She remembers this mostly because the boy she had a crush on SURGEd in the middle of class one day. And he didn't luck out with a cute expression either. Gills on the face are something of a turn-off to her.
The other major event that effected her life was the Crash of '64 just a few years later. Her private romantically entangled matrix tutor failed to show up for her lessons after the crash. It wasn't until months later that she discovered a new AI hanging around her node in the Matrix when they finally got back online. Her loverboy had been caught in the crash and left as a ghost in the matrix. He still carried most of his old memories intact, including his feelings for her. The couple has continued carrying on with thier relationship in the Matrix ever since.
4) How did you get into shadowrunning, and why?
Venessa's parents were killed in a dubious accident. The family's holdings were divided among the children, but it was somehow the over-ambitious black sheep of the family (her youngest brother) that recieved the controlling interests in everything. Since then he's been getting chummy with Shiawase. She suspects he and perhaps Shiawase both had a hand in her parents' death and that the will he produced may not be entirely on the up-and-up. The authorities are un-interested in further investigation however.
Her old flame, Jarvis (now an AI trapped in the matrix) offered to help her find the truth. With his guidance she's prepared herself as best she can to enter the shadows where truth often lies buried beneath the lies. If she's successful, not only could she avenge her parnets, but as thier favored child she may well be the one who was to gain control of the family fortunes and could yet do so.
5) What is your living space like?
Venessa is used to living in the lap of luxury. Her current abode in Bellevue is slumming it by her standards (though upper middle class to most). So, she's added some touches to help make a shack a home. Fancy AR artwork covers the walls, predominantly romantic scenes from classic works. The virtual view is of her old home in the family mansion as a reminder of what she's working for. A physical picture of Jarvis and herself when they were teenagers sits on the nightstand by her bed. The condo itself is covered in warm earth tones and maroon accents with comfy funiture throughout.
Her safehouse, however, is pretty spartan with little more then basic essentials and a solid matrix connection.
6) What are your beliefs / convictions (if any) and why do you hold them?
7) what do you think is your most annoying / worst trait?
Venessa may be proffessional, but she's still got a little spoiled princess at heart. She's a bit condensending and petty with a quiet mean-streak. Cross her and she'll eventually make sure you regret it.
8) What megacorp do you like the most? the Least? Why?
Most - NeoNET; She just likes the ergonomics of thier software products better, both matrix and active-soft. It just feels more "comfortable". Beyond that prefference in product though, she's pretty corp-neutral.
Least - Shiawase; Venessa suspects that they were either involved in her parents' deaths or are (unknowingly or otherwise) harboring those who are.
9) How did you come to know your contacts?
Jarvis - They first met when her father hired Jarvis (a security decker at the time) to give her private lessons in the matrix, electronics, and other fields of study that would be useful for understanding matrix-based business. The two became friends and then secretly became a good deal more then just friends. During Crash 2.0, Jarvis was online and was caught in the havoc. They found each other again in the following months, but Jarvis had been trapped in the matrix as an AI, an imprint of his mind left behind that was surprisingly intact. The couple still feel the same as ever and even manage to continue the relationship via the matrix.
Shiela - A local doctor that runs a quiet upscale body mod clinic in Bellevue just a few blocks down from Venessa's current residence. They first met when Venessa's mother sent her to Shiela to get her skillwires installed and a competent dancing activesoft loaded in time for a big benefit ball. Since then, Venessa's discovered that Shiela does a little more clandestine work as well and she's been a regular customer since as she's been getting augmented for an edge in the shadows.
Crank - Crank's a fixer that operates out of the Ork Underground. Jarvis used some of his old contacts to locate Crank and arrange an introduction with "Yuri". Having met only recently, it's purely business between them but he has helped her aquire a few select items of dubious legality, and is keeping his ear out for work.
Dahlia - One of the hangers-on often seen at high society gatherings, Dahlia is from one of the "little people" families that's still big enough to stay in the "it" circles. The two met at a party for some overly rich but tasteless kid's sweet 16 and got to talking just to pass the time at the insufferably dull event. While not really close, they keep in touch for any up-coming events and always try to arrange time together there, finding each other's company prefferable to the majority of the rabble.
10) What do you do on a day off?
when not working on something shadow-related, or attending a high society function, Venessa likes to spend a lot of her time on the Matrix. In particular, spending some romantic time in Hot Sim with Jarvis. She's also been known to take a walk around her neighborhood when the air's clear enough to not need a rebreather (which isn't often these days since she doesn't live under a filter dome anymore).
11) How did you come to learn your skills at your present profeciency?
Growing up in high society circles meant learning the ins and outs of Etiquette at an early age. And it didn't take long to start learning how to spot the fake smiles while plastering on one of her own. When she started preparing for the shadows, Yuri focused on improving those talents for deception to better conceal her own identy.
Most of her Matrix skills were learned under the private tutoring of an expert security hacker pre-Crash 2.0, and despite taking extra time for thier romantic entanglements she picked up a great deal about the subject. She's honed the basic skills ever since and has become quite adpet at hacking in this new wireless world.
12) Are thier any moral limits on what jobs you take or things you'll do?
Venessa's dark side has developed since her parents died. She can count on 1 hand the number of people she has genuinely loved, and they were on that very short list. The desire to repay the pain that caused has been eating at her and driving her to great lengths. She would go out of her way to "take care of unsettled business".
However, if you're not on her personal hit-list, you're pretty much getting the kiddie glove treatment. Unless of course she's hired to kill you, in which case she'll just try to make sure there's as little suffering involved as possible.
13) How do you view magic?
Venessa grew up in a rich family post-awakening. There's always been a wage-mage on the security team, and she's always been around magic in some form or fashion. To her, it's just another part of life and tool to use like any other talent.
14) How did you get your augmentations?
Some of her initial body mods were just part of living in very well-to-do circles, like dietware to maintain a perfect figure or clean metabolism to prevent an emerassing faux-pas. Even her skillwires were insisted upon by her mother as a fast-track to learning skills in time for big events or public appearances. She even picked up a sleep regulator to give her more time to take care of her busy social life.
The rest, however, have been additions made using a good deal of the funds from her portion of her parents' estate that was granted along side her trust fund. Wired Reflexes, cyber eyes, and muscle toners for surviving the streets without a bodyguard. An Encephalon to help her hacking skills, and a suite of datajacks and new active-softs to complement her skills in a relatively short time frame.
15) What do you think of ordinary life and those who live it?
Dull. It's for the little people who refuse to make something big of themselves. Still, if they're happy, then who is she to get in thier way?
16) What would be a bad nightmare for you? Any deep-rooted fears? Why is it so frightening to you?
She was a depressed worried wreck for months when she couldn't get ahold of Jarvis after the Crash. And he was her lifeline when her parents died. Losing him again would be like pulling the keystone from the bridge holding up her world.
17) What or who is your "sacred object" or "close one", and how did they come to be so important to you?
Jarvis is the love of her life, be it in the meat or in the matrix. He's the only one that ever got her guard down enough to be "real". The only one she feels completely like herself around. No fake smiles for mom and pop, no act or airs put on to impress the neighbors, just the two of them together.
18) What did you want to be as a child, and what are your goals now?
19) What do you look like, and what inspired those choices?
Venessa does her best to make herself look like she fits in wherever she's working. In her normal daily life, it's fashionable tailored shirt and slacks, or a nice dress, all made to flatter her figure. In shadow work, it's the basic off-the-shelf look with the ubiquitous lined coat and discreet armored protection beneath average bargain-mart baggy cloths. Hair is long and straight. Sometimes loose, sometimes tied back into a lengthy ponytail or a shorter sports braid.
Whatever the case, it's "blend in" time. She learned a long time ago that you can slip around where you're not supposed to be just by looking and acting like you belonged there. It's how she got most of her juicy gossip as a kid and it's served her well ever since.
20) How did you get your street name?
When she was first discussing her plans to look into her parents' demise and the subject of the shadows came up, Jarvis called her his beautiful flower, delicate like a lily, and expressed his concern for her safety. It was his counsel that convinced her to spend over a year in training and preperation rather then dive head long into such a rough life. Out of a sense of irony, she chose to go by the alias of "Yuri", Japanese for "Lily", when she finally felt ready.

Journal Entries: (long, and still going) - Spoiler:
From a battered and dirty old book, hand-written in scrawled print that seems to steady and improve as the book goes on...
Henry says I should practice writing. So I write in this book. I still not good at comm-thing. Still, Henry says I learning fast. Real fast. Like I not learning, just remembering. I hope hes right. Feels funny not remembering past a week ago. But I need to write, so I write about what I can remember.
First thing was pain. Hurt all over, not know why. Laying on something lumpy and hard, lots of noise around. I hear a voice by my head, but not know what he saying. Feel tiny hands trying to tug on arm. Eyes finally opened, blink a few a times before everything not blurry. Ears get better too. Looked up and see Henry pulling on arm, saying 'Have to go now! Move move move!'. So I try to move. Feel heavy, slow. Like covered in weights. Slipped on blue slippery stuff and started coughing out more blue stuff. Looked back and see big broken tube with glass bits all around. Legs were still inside it. Past that, lots of metal bits and fire and rocks and walls.
Henry keep saying Move Move, so I did. Floppy at first. Crawled away from fire. Then better, could stand against wall and move faster. Followed Henry down skinny road between tall walls. By time we go past a few roads, legs work ok again. Can run and walk normal. We go back to Henry's place. He say I need cloths, that I look 'distracting' without them. I stay and he go down road to get 'flats' from machine. They not fit well, but dry and feel good. Henry nice tiny man.
He not know what to call me, and I not know either. So for now he just call me Buttercup. Says it was sister's name once.
Hand hurt from writing with tiny pen now. Write more later.
-- Day 14 --
I need to keep track of days Henry says, so I added days I've counted since waking up from accident.
Henry's been working with me on my English and it's getting better. I think he's right that I'm just remembering how to do it. It's like things keep falling into place. He also said I need to find some work soon before I eat him out of house and home. Welcome to stay, but he needs help paying for food. I do get really hungry. Lots. Said he'd talk to his boss and see if there might be some work I could do at the docks for a bit to "get on my feet". Henry's a good guy. Very nice, very helpful, not sure why.
We watched a recorded news report from the night he found me. They said there was an accident with lots of Universal Omnitech things. I didn't quite understand all the news lady said. Henry says he heard shooting, so he thinks it might not have been an accident. But there were more then one that happened that night. Not sure what really happened.
-- Day 18 --
My English is doing great now! Drek, but I wish the rest of my memory came as easily. I still can't recall anything from before that night. Been moving around easily now, and even figured out a few other odd tricks I can do, like "see" with my eyes closed. Henry's wondering if maybe I've got 'talent', but I don't feel like I've got mojo.
I went down to the docks with Henry today to meet his boss. He seemed a lot more interested in hiring me once he saw me. Big muscles are good to have for the dock I guess. I didn't have any ID on me (being found naked and all) but they checked my prints anyway. It didn't come back quite right, something wierd going on. But nothing bad showed up, and the boss needed an extra set of hands, so he gave me the job. Just the odd night when they get big shipments in, payed in certified cred, but it'd help pay for food.
-- Day 21 --
Some guys at the dock challenged me to arm wrestling, 5 nuyen a match. I made over 50 bucks! Even the burly orc with the buldging cyberarm couldn't take me. Bought Henry dinner as a little thanks for helping me out so much.
-- Day 22 --
That orc with the cyberarm came back to talk to me today. He asked if I'd ever fought before. I told I didn't know, couldn't remember much. He just chuckled and said he knew if a place that arranged sport fights for prizes a lot bigger then 5 nuyen for arm wrestling. The boss at the docks had already told me he wasn't expecting to need me for the next week or so, so I figured I'd give it a shot and see if I could keep some food money coming in. If I made enough, maybe I could splurge on some of those positively dreamy cream-filled chocolate cupcakes.
The next round of fights was in 2 days. He offered to run me through the paces if I'd split the prize with him. Why not? If I don't win, I don't owe him anything. "Training" starts tomorrow.
-- Day 23 --
Manwale is the orc's name. He has an empty lot, high fences all around, with a few bits of equipment setup. Big punching bag, things like that. He started by trying to spar with me. I didn't know what to do at all. He punched me good right off before I knew I was supposed to be trying to block. Even so, it didn't really hurt. I just looked down at him and he seemed surprised, then happy. Not so happy when I punched back like he asked. I was glad he had those bits of padding on because it looked like it hurt when he went flying about 4 feet back. We didn't spar anymore after that.
I did get to practice punches and things though, and how to duck. Still not quite getting the hang of that though. Manwale seems to think I'll do just fine.
-- Day 25 --
Henry is a little worried about me fighting, but he understands. He's going to come along to cheer for me. He did say I should pick a different name to fight under though. Something a little more intimidating. I couldn't think of anything really, so I just used my initials, B.C. The fight was in an old warehouse near the docks. People sitting around on piled crates or just standing around. A big chalk circle on the floor marked the fighting spot. Rules were simple, fight goes until tap out, knock out, or ring out. No weapons, no shoes, just shirt and pants.
There were a handful of fighters that night, and everyone was placing bets on who they thought would be last standing. Henry put what was left of my arm wrestling money on me like I had asked him to, even added a bit of his own to the pot. First up was a big ork fellow and a little slip of an elf girl. We thought the fight would be one-sided, and it was but not the direction we were thinking. That girl was fast, and she had a lot of fancy moves. Took that ork down with a strike to the chin. Knocked him flat out.
I was up next, fighting some latin guy with muscles that buldged way too much to look right on his frame. Lucky for me, he didn't have elf-girls fancy moves. We basically just started slugging each other. His punches actually hurt, but I was feeling stuff give under my hits, too. Heard a couple snapping sounds, but it didn't seem to phase this guy. Finally I just grabbed him by the front of his shirt and outright tossed his hoop from the ring. He landed hard in a pile of crates that broke under him. Manwale checked on him, and he was alive, but out cold. Win for me.
There were a few more rounds after that. The elf-girl won another one against some dwarf. I fought another troll next who was making disgusting gestures at me. So I kicked him in the crotch, he doubled over, and I knocked his head into the cement. He was out cold. When they finally got him to come to he was talking in a squeaky voice for a while, too. Serves him right. The elf-girl gave me a thumbs up for that one, too.
That just left me and the elf for the last round. I didn't think I was going to win that one. I knew I'd never match her speed or her moves. My only real chance was if I could manage to get a hold on her to keep her from getting away. It went on a couple minutes with her darting in and hitting real quick then getting back out. It hurt, but not too bad. She didn't have the force behind her hits that the latino did. Still, I couldn't last too long. Then I noticed there was a certain rythm to how she was moving. I watched it, and then just as she was moving in to hit again, I got hand down and around her throat. Pulled her up into a bearhug and held on with everything I had. A moment later, she was out of breath and passed out, and I was covered in bruises.
Manwale was impressed. All three rounds won by knockout. He nick-named me Blackout for that. The prize purse was good too. Over a thousand nuyen. He took half for his split, and me and Henry picked up some extra cash from our bets. I walked out of there hurting and tired, but with 3 weeks pay in my hands for one night's work. Manwale said there'd be another fight in a couple weeks if Iw as interested and gave me his number.
-- Day 27 --
I went shopping today with the cred I got from the fight. Picked up some new cloths that fit right and a cheap commlink of my own. Henry showed me how to put Manwale's number in later that night. I'm starting to get the hang of this commlink, but the AR stuff is still a pain in my hoop.
And speaking of pain in my hoop, I decided to go see a doc that Henry reccommended to make sure I hadn't gotten myself in too much trouble from that fighting. He was big troll with an office down in the Ork Underground. I'm just glad it's not orc-sized or my back would be killing me by now. Anyway, I got down there and the doc gave me a look-see. Took a blood sample and ran it through some old machines there that made some odd squeaky noises. He 'hmmm'd for a while, looking over some AR I guess. The results though, those were intersting.
First up was the good news. I was perfectly healthy and my bruises should be gone in a day or two. No broken bones or anything either. In fact, my bones were remarkably dense and sturdy. And my bloodwork was showing a few interesting markers. For starters, it's type O, a universal donor as he called it. And it had higher ratios of platelettes then normal. Combined with the abnormal bone density, it got him wondering if maybe I'd had some work done before I lost my memory. So he did a more detailed analysis. As much as his aging gear could provide anyway.
The analysis showed markers for several common bioware implants, including enhanced bone structures. It also popped up one other bit of news, and it was the big one. I didn't just have type-O blood, my whole system was Type -O, as in Type-Owen. I didn't have a clue what that meant, so the doc explained it to me. I'm a universal donor for *everything*. Supposedly, I had drastically better chances of being born with magic then having this type of bio-system. And speaking of mojo, that whole seeing with eyes shut thing is another implant he said. Anyway, he also said not to spread it around that I was like this. He said there are some mean people who would be happy to sell my parts even if I was trying to use them at the time. I took his word for it. I just hope I can trust him on that, but Henry gave him the OK so I guess I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
-- Day 46 --
It's been a busy couple of weeks for me. I did 3 more fight nights with Manwale, and got in a lot of practice in between. I'm starting to get the hang of this, and I made some really good money with a few of those bets. Henry helped me find my own place just down the block and pick out a few essentials with the money I'd earned. I'm glad the fights are working out, because work's been drying up at the docs lately. Not as many ships coming in this month.
The doc, Warrez, is still wanting to run some more tests on me. see if he can figure out what's wrong with my head that I can't rememebr anything. But when I stopped by this morning, his equipment was on the fritz so he told me to come back later. Poor guy, he really needs to get some more cred flowing in, but that can be hard in the Underground.
-- Day 49 --
Manwale spoke to me about moving up into the 'big time' fights. He says there's a whole other circle of fights going on with bigger crowds, even some rich folks coming to watch. And that means bigger money. Folks like me who do good in the small-time fights sometimes get invited to attend the bigger events, and he thinks he can get me on the card if I'm interested. I told him I'd like to just watch some of those fights first. He got a twinkle in his eye at that, "ahhh, checkin out the competition eh? that's smart girl, real smart. You could go far with a good head on your shoulders like that."
Anyway, I went last night to see one of these fights. It's kinda hush-hush, but Manwale helped me get a ticket down near the ring. We were in an actual small old stadium, complete with a few small stands and some private boxes up above. Outside it just looked like a big old aircraft hangar or something, but it was done up pretty nice. The seating was even big enough in places for me to be comfy.
The fights themselves were something to see. These guys were *fast*, and more then just that little elf-girl from my first fight. If you blinked, you could miss a match-winning punch in some of these fights. The skill level looked a little higher, too. I figure I can handle them on the skill end. I've gotten a lot better and I keep practicing. It's the speed end I'm not sure how to match. But if I can find a way... the prize purse for the winner that night was almost 8,000 nuyen. even with a manager cut and maybe some medical care, that's enough to keep me in food, cloths, and housing for months, all in a single night. And Manwale had told me beforehand that this was just one of the small potatoes fights.
I'll have to see if I can find a way to get up to speed to compete here. It could give me a lot of long-term possibilities. Maybe Manwale knows something. I'll ask him tomorrow.
-- Day 50 --
Manwale said that a lot of the fighters are 'wired'. They've got implants that boost thier speed. Some rely on booster drugs for a temporary boost though. I'd rather not go the drug route. Seems prone to abuse, and I've seen too many bad endings from heavy drug use on the trid. Besides, Doc Warrez has to give me almost time and a half the normal troll dose of pain- kills already, so I doubt the boosters would work too well anyway.
The wires though, that might work, if I can get the money for it. I might be able to save up in the small fights, but it'll take a long time, and Manwale said the biggest tournaments of the year were coming up in a couple months. He does know some people that could get me hooked up with a loan though...
I talked it over with Henry to get his take on it before commiting to that though. Henry's not too sure about the idea, but even he agrees that sometimes if you want to win big, you have to risk big. He said it was up to me, it's my life to run as I please, but to be careful dealign with those loan sharks and make certain I could pay it back somehow. And if I do decide to get the wires, have Doc Warrez install them so those sharks don't find out about my universal donor status. I think that's a good idea. Plus it'll get doc some more cred to keep his place running.
-- Day 52 --
I got the loan from Manwale's contacts today and picked out a set of wires with some help from Warrez. I feel like I've got a load of butterflies in my stomach (though it could be the rat-on-a-stick I got from the street vendor). Warrez will be putting the wires in tomorrow morning. I spent most of today with him going over the procedure and getting some tests done so he can get it all sorted out. Drek but I hope this pays off... these wires are blasted expensive and the loan has a really high interest rate. But what's a SINless she-troll to do?
-- Day 55 --
That. Frakkin'. Hurt. I still feel sore *everywhere*, but doc Warrez said the procedure went great. Well, aside from have to re-dose me a couple times when I started waking up from the anesthetic. At this point he's pretty sure that among my old bioware is some sort of chemical filter, I forget what he called it. But the wires are all in, and I'm finally back on my feet. I'm trying to get the hang of the mental on/off switch though. It's frustrating when I'm really thirsty, and I go to pour a glass of Joy- Punch from the fridge, only to watch everything kick into slow-motion.
I know it still hurts, but I've got to get training if I want to win some of these upcoming fights. I'll work on practicing with the wires first before I try to get back into some fighting. Henry got me a get-well present: a 'Do-It-Yourself Martial Arts' book. Thought it might help me learn a few new moves for the arena. heh, little squirt's aiming to get his money back from feeding me for a month. Nice of him though, and it looks like there are some neat tricks in there.
-- Day 70 --
I* got the hang of using my wires finally. And Doc showed me how to mentally turn off the wireless updates after they bogged me down mid- practice trying to update themselves. I even picked up a couple of neat new moves from that book Henry gave me.
Just in time, too. Manwale dropped by this afternoon with a card offer for a fight tomorrow night. Would have been nice to get more warning, but he said that a slot just opened up and he could slip me in. With the clock ticking on that loan I got, I went for it. So tomorrow night, I get my first real test of these new wires.
-- Day 72 --
Last night was a real rush! The arena is much nicer then the chalk circles in a warehouse. They even had music for the fighters when they came out! It was so neat! We even found a song from an orc group called CrimeTime that matched my fighting name.
