Who said running the shadows was easy? Dodging bullets, swords, spirits, and spells just to name a few. Elves, Dwarves, Trolls, even the occasional Dragon can make any Shadowrun go bad. |

| For now, I put my character in here so you can rip it apart discuss it. Of course I'm willing to edit it if the discrepancies to the customs of this forum are too great.
Ghost Ghost is converted from 3rd edition to 4th edition. The Excel sheet chara editor states she has 480 BP I know it's a bit much but I think she's far from being almighty. The 24 years old albino elf girl is about 1.75 meter tall and weights maybe 68kg. Skin and hair are white as could be expected. Her eyes are of an unnatural icy blue color. She wears her hair in a short bob. Slim and athletic, her movements are elegant and appealing. Depending on the situation she wears either black to accent her skin or white to appear even more ghostlike. The clothing often bares her mid rim or some cleavage and is in general fitted tightly onto her small but firm curves. Her fashion mostly contains hoods for strolls on a sunny day. She gets sunburns very easily. On a run, she sometimes wears camouflage patterned suits and face masks. In matters of gear she choses quality over quantity. The most important tool is always present anyway, her magic. Here are some more pictures of her.Attributes:Body: 3 Charisma: 6 Edge: 1 Agility: 4 Intuition: 4 Initiative: 8 Reaction: 4 Logic: 4 Passes: 1 Strength: 2 Willpower: 6 Magic: 4 Active skills:Conjuring (Group) 4 Sorcery (Group) 5 Assensing 5 Etiquette 2 First Aid 2 Pilot Ground Craft 2 Pistols (Heavy Pistols) 3 (+2) Unarmed Combat (Carromeleg) 2 (+2) Dodge 2 Language skills:Sperethiel N German 4 English 5 Mandarin 2 Knowledge skills: IN:Classical Music 2 SW:Magic 5 SW:Local Mafia 2 IN:Elven Society 3 SW:Corporate Procedures 2 Positive Qualities: BP Magician 15 Mentor Spirit 5 Martial Arts Lvl. 2 (Carromeleg) 10 Negative Qualities: Albinism -10 Vindictive -10 Prejudiced (Specific, Biased) Bear Shamans -5 Simsense Vertigo -10 Racial:Low light vision Magic:Death Touch (Direct) (F÷2)-2 Manaball (Direct) (F÷2)+2 Heal (DmgDV)–2 Improved Invisibility (Realistic, Single) (F÷2)+1 Physical Mask (Realistic, Multi) (F÷2)+1 Control Emotions (Mental) (F÷2) Influence (Mental) (F÷2)+1 Magic Fingers (Physical) (F÷2)+1 Levitate (Physical) (F÷2)+1 Gear:Regular Ammo EX-Explosive Rounds Magical Lodge Materials (1-6) Rtg 6 Medkit R (1-6) Rtg 2 H&K Urban Fighter Type Resp Signal CMT Clip 1 3 Armor: B I Form-Fitting Body Armor Full-Body Suit 6 2 Regular Clothing 0 0 Chic Clothin 0 0 Lined Coat 6 4 Harley-Davidson Scorpion Base Pilot 2 Type Chopper Base Sensor 1 Body 8 Base Targeting 0 Handling 2 Base Maneuver 0 Accel 15 30 Armor 4 Speed 120 Upgraded Armor Max Slots 8 Concealed Armor Used Slots 0 Smart Armor Connections: Frederic Poole (City Official) Loyalty 2 Connection 2 Jimmy (Fixer) Loyalty 2 Connection 2 Ling Ho (Triad Boss) Loyalty 4 Connection 4 Lifestyle: Low class flat, one month. 1.Where was the character born (City, State, Hospital Name) LA, California freestate, St. Quentins hospital.
2. What is the character's date of birth? Feb 18th 2050
3. What was the character's family life like? In her early life, her family was not very wealthy. Due to her Albinism she stuck out and she got discriminated in school and community. Which lead her parents to move to Tir Taingire, which wasn’t easy to achieve to begin with. And their hopes of an undisturbed life among other elfes didn’t work out either, which caused growing frustration of her parents and increasing tension in the family. When Ghost was old enough, she left the Tir and went to Seattle.
4. Has the character begun his/her own family? No she hasn’t.
5. Where or how was the character educated? Public school first in LA, later in Tir Taingire. Elemental, junior high and high school. Her magic skills she learned from Moon Maiden, from customers in Williams talis shop and from some spirits.
6. Has the character ever done anything else for a living? She worked in a small Stuffer Shack store first when she came to Seattle. A short while later she worked for a Talismonger and stayed there for longer. But when her boss was shot, she went into the shadows.
7. What are the character's spiritual and philosophical beliefs? (Religion, political views, etc.) She believes in the power of nature, but also of the human mind. Although humans are dumber than animals most of the time. Ghost isn’t interested in Politics as long as parties are involved. Although she’s on the pro nature and pro metahumanity side.
8. Describe the character's moral code. Include how mercenary he/she is, whether or not he’ll/she'll kill innocents, etc. Innocence is a matter of perspective. She wouldn’t kill a child or take it away from her parents. But her sense for revenge is very strong. And she will avenge a slight against herself. An insult as well as an attack. If the money is right, or the motivation, she will do about any job.
9. What are the character's goals? Living her life as she pleases, earning good money, getting better at her magic and have a good life altogether.
10. Why does the character run the shadows? (Why does he/she run the shadows still, rather than getting a "real" job?) First she got into the shadows to avenge Williams death, the talismonger she worked for. But soon she got to appreciate the style of living in the shadows. Now, she lives by her own rules and the laws of nature, not the rules and laws of men.
11. What kind of personality does your character have? This should not necessarily be obviously stated in the background, as it is more important for actually playing the character, but it may color or add mood to the history. Ghost can be sweet and kind to people she likes. And truly caring for someone she feels connected to. For others she cares less. And if she dislikes someone, she has no problem harming said person or at least to teach them a harsh lesson. Her mood changes like the phases of the moon. One day calm and caring, the other day hot headed and filled with the instinct to hunt. She doesn’t make friends quickly. But whom she befriends tightly can count on her.
12. What special qualities does the character possess? This does not refer to skills, but rather to other things, such as how he/she gets along with people, whether he/she plans ahead, etc. She treats people according to her impression. A polite person she’ll be kind to. When she senses a good heart, she may bond quickly and care for the person. On the other hand she can be cold and emotionless to someone who is just a job. Or a Johnson. Together with her appearance, that can be intimidating, which she uses to her advantage.
13. Are there certain things that the character can't or won't do? Why? She would not destroy something magical. Unless it puts herself in mortal danger. Be it an artefact, a place or an entity. She doesn’t harm children for they are still innocent to a degree. Unless some ganger dares to attack her, in which case he isn’t innocent, but stupid, and deserves a lesson.
14. What things, people, or ideas does the character hate? She hates racists, narrow minded fanatics and bullies. Funny enough, she bullies others around at times. Being pressed into a category is also annoying.
15. What things people, or ideas does the character love? Her magic powers, freedom in all forms, nature and fried chicken. She also loves her family, though there’s almost no contact anymore, and the family of Ling Ho, who are very close friends.
16. What is the character's name? Give both full birth name, as well as nicknames, street names, etc. Annie Robyn Margaret Boyle. Eidolon, (Means phantom in sperethiel) Rinellé (Means rebel in sperethiel) Also known as Ghost.
17. Determine what your character used to do, before becoming a shadowrunner (very important, and not really the same question as #6.) In her youth, Ghost went to school and learned eagerly. But her appearance lead to bullying and kept her from having close friends. She liked music and still does. Her parents moved to Tir Tairngire to escape prejudice and racism when she was four years old. But it didn’t get much better for Ghost herself. When she was old enough, she moved to Seattle.
18. Decide why your character left his/her old job, if he/she had one. (Also important) Her friend and boss, William, was shot when a turf war and a run gone bad intertwined. Ghost decided to avenge his death on the people responsible for his death, the boss of the gang and the Johnson who set up the runners. It took her several months.
19. Come up with a reason for why the character became a shadowrunner. (This very often will tie in with #22. This is not the same as #10, but rather why he/she started running the shadows originally. What led him/her to it?) To get her revenge, she went head first into the shadows and became a shadowrunner. At first it was just a mean to the end. But she began to appreciate the way of life.
20. How did your character come to know his/her contacts? Contacts are an important part of Shadowrun; decide how and why you know them. Ghost met Frederic on a run. She pulled him out of the line of fire. No big deal for her. But he was thankful (and rather smitten by her pretty face). That was three months ago. When she needs some internal info of the cities council, she can ask him. But in return she has to deal with frequent invitations to dinner and bad pick up lines. Jimmy is simply the new fixer of her. They know each other for a couple months now. He has proven trustworthy to her and she has proven competent to him. A business relationship to their mutual benefit. When Ghost had her fifth run, it was supposed to be an extraction from a double A residential area. The Runnerteam was freshly assembled. But the target Ling Hung was not at stated a grown up, but a little boy of eight. The father Ling Ho guarded the boy as the last line. Seeing that display of care touched Ghost somewhat. That and a strange feeling made her stop. She conferred with her teammates. As their Johnson provided them with obvious false information, she was able to persuade two of them to abort the mission. The third though was just in for the money and didn’t care about who to extract. She dealt with that one after he attempted to run over her to get the boy. Her decision got her the friendship of Ling Ho, who by chance was the second in command for the Seattle Triad of the red scarf. They have held up their friendship ever since.
21. How long has your character been in shadows? She is running for about three years now.
22. Does the character have a SIN? Does the character actually use it? Or is the character one of the SINless masses? This may be affected by the character's previous employment. Ghost does have a legal SIN from Tir Tairngire. But avoids to use it wherever possible.
23. Is the character a full-time shadowrunner? Or does the character lead a Batman-like double existence? Full time shadowrunner.
24. Which person(s) or group(s) does your character love the most (this may refer to ideologies rather than individuals or groups. This applies to the next questions through #28 as well). Moon Maiden is of course the ideal for her. Free and only bound by her own rules. Musicians come right after magicians in her esteem. Music is like magic, just wonderful.
25. Which person(s) or group(s) does your character hate the most? Brutes, Humanis, squareheads, people who don’t care for their children. Also she doesn’t like Bear Shamans. Not ever since one of them defeated her in a duel.
26. Which person(s) or group(s) does your character respect the most? Single mothers who manage to handle both raising their children and a job.
27. Which person(s) or group(s) does your character fear the most? Only fear itself.
28. To which person(s) or group(s) is your character most loyal? To Moon Maiden, to her own family, despite the lack of contact, and Ling Ho and his family.
29. What is your character's greatest goal? All in all, to live a good life.
30. What do you think is your characters best quality? She can keep cool and level headed even in the worst of circumstances.
31. What do you think is your characters worst quality? Her vindictiveness. Sometimes she wonders if she’s too obsessed with getting back at others. But she can’t help herself.
32. What is the most important thing your character has ever done? Saving Ling Hung, and in the process saving Ling Ho’s life.
33. Which religion (if any) does your follow? Why? She feels connected to neo paganism. Artemis the huntress as an aspect of the Moon Maiden is a role model for her. But she doesn’t involve herself in any organized religion.
34. What is your character's most treasured possession (and why)?
35. What is the Character's current relationship with her family? She has no contact to them since she went into the shadows. But she knows where they live, and they know that she’s still alive. The last thing she heard was that her parents have had another child. A ‘normal’ one this time.
36. If the character's family is still alive, what do they do, and where do they live? They live in Tir Tairngire, in a small town east of Portland. Ghosts father is an electrician, the mother, formerly working as a store clerk, is now taking care of the new child.
37. Where did the character learn his/her Skills? Be as complete as possible. She learned driving back in the Tir, with her mother. From her father and his parents, she also learned speaking German and English. After a few schoolmates got a bit too close to abusing her, Ghost went into a carromeleg group and learned how to defend herself. It proved useful in her later career as well. Her magic awakened shortly before she left the Tir, but she kept it a secret as to not become even more strange to her surroundings. But when she met William the talismonger, he started teaching her how to use her skills. Customers helped out where Williams knowledge ended. And of course Moon Maiden took an active role in her training too. With William, she also learned some etiquette and the basics in shooting a pistol, it was not the best neighbourhood where they lived. During her first few runs she learned to patch up teammates.
38. List any past serious relationships that your character has had, and give a brief overview of the relationship. There has not been a serious relationship up to now. She barely even had any sexual encounter. Especially not with a male. Except for the one time the group of guys rounded up on her after school, that almost went tragic.
39. Beyond your character's relationship with family or lovers, how would you describe his/her social life? She has a few occasional friends with whom she meets in clubs and bars. Also she’s in a few chatrooms regarding magic and nature.
40. Where does your character live? Why does he/she live there? (I'd like a physical address, including Neighborhood, City & State. Google maps is a good way to get this.)
41. Does your character have any quirks or idiosyncrasies? She has a faible for bad puns. She also tends to sniff on her food or drink before actually taking the first bite/sip.
42. Does your character have any enemies? (Include anything from an arch nemesis who's sworn to kill you and all you hold dear to a bartender who holds a grudge for that time you slipped out on the tab.) The Johnson who’s life she ruined after he caused Williams death is certainly an enemy. But he’s in no shape to do much about it. Other enemies are most probably dead. The gang leader for example certainly is. The gang itself has a new leader and went on with its own business. The fixer who gave her the job of extracting Ling Hung is still a bit pissed at her. But that goes only so far as to not employing her anymore. His name is Fast Jack.

| Looks good, great portraits! A couple things I noticed, and I'm not sure how correct I am on these. First off, for a 400 BP character, qualities are restricted to 35 BP for positive and negative. For a higher-BP character, these might have a higher limit, though. Along those same lines, a 400 BP character is only allowed to take skill groups up to level 4, meaning you'd have to take Sorcery (Group) 4. Also, you don't have to specialize down to the actual gun. You can specialize for Hold-Outs, Light, Machine, or Heavy pistols (giving you a bit broader allowance ). Also, the martial arts rules in the Arsenal sourcebook say you have to take Martial Arts (Carromeleg) as a quality (you can take it as a specialization as well). Although, I suppose you can take the specialization and learn the art during gameplay (which doesn't make much sense...how can you specialize in something you don't know?) Big block o' text from Arsenal ahead: - Spoiler:
MARTIAL ARTS (POSITIVE QUALITY) Cost: 5, 10, 15, or 20 BP Martial Arts represents the character’s training in a particular martial arts style. The particular style must be noted when the quality is purchased; additional styles may also be learned, but each requires the quality to be purchased again. Each style provides a set of specific advantages to certain aspects of melee combat. Only one advantage may be chosen for every level of the quality. For example, at 5 BP the character learns one advantage, at 10 BP, two advantages, and so on. A character gains the advantages of all martial arts styles she knows; should they overlap, these dice modifiers stack. The maximum number of dice that can be added to or subtracted from a character’s dice pool from martial art modifiers is equal to the rating of the relevant Combat skill. The Martial Arts quality also allows the character to purchase maneuvers.
Carromeleg Despite elven claims to the contrary, there is no proof that this martial art existed prior to the Awakening. All of the motion in Carromeleg takes place at the point of attack; a practitioner of Carromeleg will often appear at ease until the last moment. In Sperethiel, a master of Carromeleg is known by the honorific suffix -‘rent. Elves are fiercely protective of their native art. It is extremely difficult to find a teacher willing to train non-elves. Those who do will only do so for black market prices. Advantages: +1 die on Surprise Tests when initiating an attack (may be taken twice for a cumulative +2 dice); 1 die for Receiving a Charge; +1 die on Interception attacks.
MANEUVERS Maneuvers are specialized movements and combat techniques used by martial artists to enhance their effectiveness. The use of a maneuver must be declared prior to any dice rolls. Unless otherwise noted, maneuvers may be used with other combat options in the same Action Phase. Gamemasters are encouraged to modify these maneuvers as they see fit or to create their own. Learning Martial Arts Maneuvers: Maneuvers can be used only by characters who learn them—a process that takes time, practice, and training. Any character who possesses the Martial Arts quality may learn/purchase maneuvers. Only two maneuvers may be learned/purchased per level (5 BP) of the quality. Maneuvers are purchased at a cost of 2 BP at character creation or 4 Karma during gameplay. Characters cannot learn maneuvers in gameplay without being taught by an instructor or tutorsoft. Learning a maneuver requires an Intuition + Agility (5, 1 week) Test and costs half the amount of learning a martial arts style. Maneuvers are not available on skillsofts.

| Thanks for the compliment. I made the pictures myself. As stated, the character is a conversion from 3rd edition. I used a conversion guide and the points settled down on 480. As for the group skill and total point maximum, this character has already been played. In 3rd edition settings. I didn't know about the martial arts rule, as I don't have the arsenal sourcebook yet. But I will tinker around a bit and see how I can decrease the total BP and insert the martial arts as well. Although this is quite how I wanted her to be. One question though, can qualities like Martial Arts be bought during the game? Can I just leave some stuff out and work towards it, or do I have to cram it all in now and hope the best? | |

| Alright that makes sense. Here's some info on learning Martial Arts from Arsenal:
In game terms, a character who wishes to learn a martial arts style must purchase the Martial Arts Positive quality for that style either during character creation for 5 BP, or after character creation by spending twice the BP amount in Karma points. Certain martial arts are illegal or controlled in certain jurisdictions, or are considered secrets not to be shared with outsiders, so characters must engage caution when pursuing them or look to black market teachers/providers. In addition to the Karma cost, a character learning a martial arts style during gameplay must pay for the cost of an appropriate instructor or tutorsoft. Once a character has a teacher or tutorsoft, she makes an Intuition + Agility (BP Cost, 1 month) Test. Instructors can make an Instruction Test to add extra dice to the learning test. All injury modifiers apply, as do distractions for poor conditions, and so on. Many styles are not available on tutorsoft, and the few living masters with knowledge of such styles require gifts and services other than nuyen before they will pass on their knowledge. A character may learn a style at the same time she learns or improves a Combat skill. Note that the advantages of martial arts styles may not be conveyed by skillsofts; only real-life training works. | |

| Thank you for the help.
I edited the profile:
Lowered the skillgroup Sorcery down to 5 *
Removed the Quality Exceptional willpower for 20 BP Removed the Negative Quality Unusual Eyes for 5 BP
Added the Positive Quality Martial Arts Level 2 (Carromeleg)
*I hope, that is alright because the character isn't mint condition anymore. (Already played in a campaign)
