Who said running the shadows was easy? Dodging bullets, swords, spirits, and spells just to name a few. Elves, Dwarves, Trolls, even the occasional Dragon can make any Shadowrun go bad.

Hiya all!

I've been pouring over the website and the book and I have a few ideas.

I'd like Drook (chum or friend) to be an uncouth occult detective no magic stronger that that of an adept. I have the image of Sherlock Holmes but a bigger turd and more mental problems) this might lead to his team killing him before his enemies do...

With his social skills smashed to bits, he has to rely on assensing to read people and size them up. The less he has to talk/interact with people the better so i was thinking of making him stealthy, and possibly some data search skills.

His powers so far include astral perception, killing hands, and voice control.

Ambidextrous 5
Allergy (Common, Mild) - 10
Blandness 10
Astral Chameleon 5 (to add to sneakyness)
Photographic Memory 10 (not like he has an astral camera to take pictures with)
Weak Immune System -5
Uncouth -20

skills look like so...
Athletics (Group) 2
Stealth (Group) 3
Armorer 4
Artisan (pencils) 1(3) (to print his mental 'pictures')
Assensing 3
Perception 3
Longarms 4
DataSearch 3
Hardware 4
Unarmed Combat 4

and a bit of back story...

Drook, a troll, has had a rather unfortunate go of things. Born of 2 human parents he began expression of his gene traits around puberty his mother tried unsuccessfully to disbud his horns causing bleeding and cranial expansion; He hasn’t been right in the head since. Eventually Drook’s father found out. The frustration and suspicion of having a troll for a son built up in his father until murder/suicide ensued. Drook came home from school to find both of them dead. He went to the fridge and made a sandwich.

After the food went bad Drook moved to crime to feed himself. Arming himself with the enormous shotgun that was more useful as a bat he picked targets out of opportunity. One day he met with an elf. Mi, an elven adept, learned a great deal about the tragedy behind Drook from assensing him. Despite his antisocial tendencies Drook formed an immense attachment for his new guardian and learned to develop some of his powers as well as proficiency for hand to hand combat.

Finally it happened again. Drook came to the apartment where his only connection to humanity lay dead, A message was written in blood above the body, “don’t even”. Upon examining the scene, he realized that Mi was not an elf, but a human. And the remnants of his astral signature confirmed this. He also managed to get a glimpse of the signature of whatever might be responsible. Looks like its back to the shadows…

He believes his mentor is still with him and talks in the plural first. He does not tolerate stupidity, incompetence, or boredom well. He is willing to tolerate minor annoyances if you are deemed fit to be a comrade. Woe to the runner who is no longer an asset. As a final note, if he met himself he would probably kill himself or die trying.

Well that’s drook! any thought or suggestions are welcomed.

I have a few final questions involving adept powers. Do I activate adept powers daily, or am I stuck with them until I die?

Here is some gear that I think might come in handy...

Humorous concept! A couple things worth mentioning:
You have no Perception skill, which is kind of important for any kind of detective. This also means you should have a high Intuition. As an Awakened character, you might also consider taking the Mentor Spirit quality and follow either Owl from the Street Magic sourcebook (unlikely, Drook don't seem very wise) or Dark King from the corebook, I believe (you'd have to work with the fluff), both offering +2 dice for both Perception and Assensing tests.
Instead of the Photographic Memory quality, you should take either the Eidetic Sense Memory or Three-Dimensional Memory adept powers, each costing .5 points. I believe they are found in the Street Magic sourcebook. Basically, ESM acts like PM but you remember other senses as well (smell, hearing, taste, etc.) and you can still photo-read. 3DM gives you a three-dimensional "memory vignette" where you can recall a scene and move around it, interact with objects you saw (you cannot learn anything that you could not see, like files in a closed cabinet), it's pretty cool. So take that 10 BP quality and give yourself an extra point in Magic (and maybe a level of Mystic Armor Wink )

heh i guess i did miss perception... kind of ironic...
I didn't want to cap any attribute, so i think intuition is maxed as far as troll racials -1.
If you can think of him as a clever 4 yr old in a giants body it might help intuition and logic are 4 and 3 respectivly. Charisma and Will power are one and 2.

The mentor spirit I want to shy away from, his 'mentor' is dead and gone (or out of reach with his abilities) otherwise it might be a little bit easier to solve who is behind it. The disuguise seems to suggest his mento was hiding thus new that something was after him, what it was can be determind by a GM.

The corebook is the only one i have so far, any other books i should look into for general uses?

thanks for the input

You can make a good character with justice the core book, but, for a player, the additional source books are really great.
Runner's Companion adds a lot of positive and negative qualities and alternative character concepts (like AIs).
Augmentation has lots of great cyber, Bio, nano, and gene wares, and some medical stuff too.
Arsenal has weapons, vehicles, and drones, and lots of other gear runners need.
Unwired is essential for hackers and technomancers. Street Magic is equally important for Awakened characters (not as much for Adepts).
