PERSONAL BIO
Standing at about 1.8 meters and weighing just under 90 kilograms, Logan is slightly larger than the average human with a hard, athletic body and quick, sure movements. Shaggy, unkempt shoulder-length dark hair and a swath of beard stubble frame a hard, humorless face. His equally hard gaze and gruff demeanor keep most of the other metas from getting too close, which he likes just fine. His bluff, no-nonsense style stems from his education in the school of hard knocks and running the shadows has only honed his sharp edges, not dulled them.

Background
Logan spent several years in the military, running covert missions for the Special Forces Division. After a near-death "accident" - a grenade that killed off the last of his team - he alone was air-lifted out, just barely alive, and returned home with an honorable discharge, a Purple Heart, and brand new cyber- and bioware implants (some of which he is unaware of).
Now he runs the shadows, putting his knowledge of combat tactics, grit in the face of imminent danger, and skill with firearms to use in the never-ending struggle for survival on the mean streets of the Seattle sprawl.

Bio
Growing up in the Seattle streets was hard enough. Growing up in the Seattle streets
as an ork, an outcast, mistrusted, misjudged, feared...was a lot worse.
Gnash figured out early on that the only way he would survive, let alone thrive, in
this brave new world of old racial prejudice and intoleration was with connections, leading to his becoming affiliated with the local Mafia. Starting small - running deliveries and other minor errands as a gopher - Gnash earned a reputation for both hard work and keeping his mouth shut, the latter a prerequisite to keeping one's head on and facing forward. He worked his way up in the ranks quickly and is now a respected enforcer - the 'go-to' guy who gets jobs done with little or no fuss.
Though he enjoys his work, his social life is lacking significant ties with his own kind. Having heard of the Ork Underground, Gnash seeks to find a contact to set up an introduction - an 'in' to what he hopes to be a richer, more fulfilled life.

Martial Arts Styles
Carromeleg
Despite elven claims to the contrary, there is no proof that this martial art existed
prior to the Awakening. All of the motion in Carromeleg takes place at the point of
attack; a practitioner of Carromeleg will often appear at ease until the last moment.
In Sperethiel, a master of Carromeleg is known by the honorific suffix -‘rent.
Elves are fiercely protective of their native art. It is extremely difficult to find a
teacher willing to train non-elves. Those who do will only do so for black market
prices.
Advantages: +1 die on Surprise Tests when initiating an attack (may be taken twice for
a cumulative +2 dice); +1 die for Receiving a Charge; +1 die on Interception attacks
(see p. 151, SR4).

Ninjutsu
The martial art used by the legendary ninja, Ninjutsu focuses on stealth and the use
of all types of weapons. Unarmed forms of the art, however, are just as deadly as the
weapon-wielding forms.
Ninjutsu developed in Japan approximately five hundred years ago and has been
maintained by secret organizations ever since. These organizations, or ninja clans,
are jealous guardians of their knowledge, and students must swear loyalty to the clan
before they will be taught this art. It is fairly rare in Japan, and even more so in
the rest of the world.
Advantages: +1 die on Surprise Tests when initiating an attack;
+1 die for Gymnastics Dodge; reduce Visibility modifiers in
melee combat by 1; +1 die on infiltration Tests

Maneuvers (6 BP)
Finishing Move
A character with this maneuver who has succeeded in striking an opponent (whether
damage is inflicted or not) may immediately follow that attack up with a move designed
to finish the opponent off . This allows the character to make an immediate follow-up
melee attack in the same Action Phase. Finishing Move counts as an interrupt
action and uses up the character’s next available action.

Kick Attack
A staple of many martial arts, kicking has a greater range and power than punching.
The attacker receives +1 Reach on Unarmed Combat Tests when using a Kick Attack.

Set-Up
The Set-up maneuver allows a character to maneuver her opponent into a position where
she is vulnerable to a follow-up attack. The character makes an attack test,
inflicting no damage if successful. Instead, her net hits are added as dice pool bonus
to the next attack she makes against that opponent. This maneuver is
particularly effective when combined with Finishing Move.

BIO
Azrael was born in Japan, where he was raised in the old tradition of learning martial
arts to develop discipline, self-control, and determination. His father, a harsh
taskmaster, believed that physical punishment - severe beatings would be a more apt
phrase - was the method of choice to 'encourage' his son to study hard and persevere.
As he grew older, and more advanced in his skill, Azrael began to realize his father's
true feelings for his son, disgust and hatred. No matter how well the son performed
the sudden, snake-like movements of Carromeleg - the elven style of martial arts - the
father's physical abuse escalated until even the doctors took notice of the frequency
with which the young man visited the clinics. Ultimately, at the age of eighteen,
Azrael could take no more, and though he loved and honored his father as his parent
and instructor, the unavoidable conflict occured. For the first time in his life,
Azrael fought not as a pupil, but as a man who had finally made the decision to stand
strong and refuse that which he knew to be wrong. In the bloodiest contest between the
two men ever, Azrael defeated his father - beaten nearly to death - and won the right
to choose his own path from that moment on.
Convinced that his father would banish him from their home, Azrael gathered his meager
belongings and prepared to go, but his mother - a quiet, unassuming woman - talked him
into waiting until his father returned home from the hospital. She told him that with
his father undergoing treatment and not expected home for some weeks, it was
Azrael's responsibility to watch over the household in his father's absence.
While he waited to face his father - he knew that was the real reason for his mother's
refusal to allow him to leave - he continued his training. Somehow, news of Azrael
reached a local chapter of the ninja guild, and he was secretly approached and offered
membership. Interested, he went to a meeting where he was informed of the price of
initiation - the death of his father by his own hand. Only by accomplishing this task,
they explained, could he demonstrate his acceptance of the guild and his loyalty to
none other. After all the years of taking abuse from the man who raised him, Azrael
snuck by dark of night into the clinic where his father recuperated. "So, you have
come to finish me," his old man said calmly as Azrael entered his room. Taken aback at
the man's apparent indifference, Azrael hesitated, only staring at the old, hated
figure lying helpless on the padded cot. "You-" his father was interrupted by a fit of
hacking coughs, "You think the ninja approached you because you are so famous? It was
I who contacted them. I have always known of your hatred for me. Did I not torment you
for just that purpose?"
Azrael could not believe what he was hearing. "Why then? Why distance a son from his
father? Was it my appearance? Could you not love a son despite his differences from
you?"
The old man laughed - laughed! - through his coughing. "You know so much, yet so
little. You cannot see a father's true love for a son. The world is a harsh, pitiless
place. I had to make sure you would be strong enough to survive in it. I knew I would
not always be here to watch over you." His voice grew hard despite its frailty, "And I
would not if I were. It is a man's responsibility to find his own way in life. Now I
can leave mine...knowing you have what it takes to......meet it...on your
feet."
The coughing grew steadily worse and his father grew weaker with each bout, but he
struggled to finish what he had to say. "Now......complete your
task......do what...you...came for..."
Azrael stared at his father. He was stunned into motionlessness. His mind reeled and
hot tears stung the corners of his eyes. "Father...," he murmured, the first time he
had used that word to this man since he'd been a small boy.
Sudden rage contorted his father's face and he strained up from the pillows, "You
falter already?! Will you throw everything away and dishonor me with weeping?! Fulfill
your task - now! Or slink away like a dog in the street with your tail between your
legs! Do one or the other, but disgrace yourself not with impotent tears and
sentiment!"
With the old anger raging within him, Azrael took hold of his father's head, stared
into those eyes that had passed judgement upon him countless times, whispered, "I love
you, father," and wrenched the man's head around backwards, snapping his fragile neck. As he gently lay his father's dead body on the cot, Azrael saw the calm, almost serene, smile on the old, purpling lips and fled the clinic.
He could not return home and face his mother knowing what he'd done, so he decided to go away for good. He bought passage on a transport bound across the ocean to Seattle - a metroplex full of opportunity, yet a place one could lose one's self amid the teeming plethora of cultures, subcultures, and fringe groups that abounded in this melting pot sprawl.

Sean Connor, 'Badger' as he is known on the streets, has had more than his fair share of bad luck in his 18 years. Born to an abusive, overbearing alcoholic father and an escapist, neglectful drug-addict mother, Badger was raised on the harsh, pitiless streets of the Redmond Barrens. Dodging law enforcement, organleggers, pimps, and worse, became second nature to the young human. It was no surprise then, as he neared his late teens, that he would leave his parents' house to become a ward of the streets that were his real home. Sleeping in the ruins of abandoned, condemned houses, panhandling or scavenging for food, salvaging discarded items of clothing and electronic gadgets were his tools of survival and he made the best of what meager skills he had developed in a world that didn't seem to care if he lived or died.
Just as it seemed that things couldn't get any worse, however, disaster struck. Being in the wrong place at the wrong time had never been so prophetic as on the day he'd taken his first bullet. Making his way down to the local stuffer shack for something to eat - the guy in 'Second Hand Essentials' had given him 10¥ ('10¥!') for a slightly damaged sim module he'd scrounged from the dump, and the cuts he'd suffered digging it out of an old, busted flat-screen television ('did people really use to watch those prehistoric devices?') had stopped bleeding and he hardly noticed them anymore. Sudden gunfire broke the relative tranquility of the day as several metas on Japanese 'crotch-rockets' sped by - the shooting apparently aimed at each other. The few pedestrians who had not immediately ducked for cover stood gaping in idiot wonder as the action-movie tableau unfolded in the once-quiet sprawl neighborhood.
No one, however, noticed the 18-year old lying facedown in the grass - blood flowing freely from the two head wounds, one front and one in back. Who knows how long he'd have lain there, his life, such as it was, draining away. But it was not to be Badger's end. A passing sedan pulled quickly to the curb a woman got out accompanied by two teenagers, and within minutes the mortally wounded Badger was on his way to the emergency room.
Several months later, after three operations, Badger had fully recovered and was back on the streets. The doctors had called it a miracle that the damage had not been more severe, and although he had scars that would be with him for the rest of his life - physical and mental - Badger knew it had been no miracle. Not the 'omniscient being from above' kind, anyway. No, the miracle had been the compassion of a stranger (who he later learned was Janesta), and her lifesaving outreach to a scrawny, mostly useless, homeless street urchin.
After his brush with death, for the first time aware of the concept of his own mortality, and the inspiration of the good samaritan's intervention, Badger decided to visit his parents - the first time in six years. He knew they were still living in the same rundown old house. He went through the back door, just as he always had. The familiarity of coming home was so strong that he had to grit his teeth against a sudden surge of homesickness that tightened his guts. As he strode down the hall, a shout out to let his mother know who it was in the house died on his lips. The house was silent. Too silent. His mother always had music playing or a trideo of some sappy soap opera or romantic film going. She always said it kept the 'spooks' away. She would even leave something going while she was out shopping or visiting a friend. But the place felt like a tomb. Shaking his head against that thought, he quickly went from room to room, searching for some sign of her whereabouts.
Upstairs, he approached his parents' bedroom with caution. As a small boy, he had been forbidden to enter that room, and even now he felt that inner child cry out to stay away. Heart hammering like thunder in his ears, he closed his fist around the doorknob and was mildly surprised when it did not shock him. Heaving a sigh of chagrin at his foolishness, he pushed the door open-
It was several moments before he could accept what he was seeing - several moments before he remembered to breathe...
She lay on her side on the threadbare carpet. She was wearing one of her summer housedresses. Her legs had splayed and the hem of her dress had pulled up to expose a couple inches of her slip. That seemed to be the important thing - that her slip was showing when she had always been so modest, almost prudish about her appearance.
Dried blood, like rivulets of black paint, spattered the carpet, bed, and wall behind where she lay, and there were thicker globs of something Badger didn't want to think about. But his gaze kept returning to the hem of her dress.
The gun lay about a foot away from one of her outstretched hands and his eyes flinched away from it, returning, like a moth to flame, to that thin strip of exposed slip. He was reaching down to pull her dress down and cover her slip before he was even aware he had crossed the room. He tugged the dress down to a more modest position. From here he could see her face...or what was left of it.
"NOOOOOOOOO!"
The cry erupted out of him finally, and he collapsed to his knees beside her. He gently took the hand flung out from her fall and touched it to his cheek. It was cold and his cheek was wet ('why is my cheek wet?'), so he settled for cradling the hand in his and pressed it against his chest. He knelt there for an indeterminate time, the flow of his despair diminishing to trickles only to flood up anew whenever his gaze fell on his mother's ruined face.
Finally able to get himself together somewhat, he turned away from the body - this was not how he wanted to remember her, after all - and his attention fell on the gun. He stooped to pick it up. It was heavy - an Ares Predator IV. He wasn't really familiar with firearms, but on the streets, you picked up tidbits of information here and there. He wondered at the pistol. He could not imagine his mother choosing a cannon like this for...for... His mind shut out that line of thought like the slam of a prison cell door. He held the semiautomatic up and turned it this way and that, still puzzled at how she could have come to have-
"Dear- What have you done?!" His father's voice, slurred with too much alcohol as usual, was edged with incredulity and, ('could it be? was it? yes,' he thought it was) righteous triumph!
Badger turned to face his father, the gun still held up in one hand. "No," he fumbled the words out, still in shock. "No, you don't understand. I found her-"
His father grabbed him by the shoulders - somehow having crossed the room without seeming to have moved at all - and shook him. "Look what you've done! It almost killed her when you disappeared, and now you've come and finished the job! You-"
Badger tried to fend off the man, but he was still too disoriented to put up much of a struggle. "No! You don't understand! Why won't you listen-"
The world went black for an instant and Badger's head rocked back. He stared around, blinking in surprise, when it dawned on him that he'd been struck! His rotten old man had punched him.
"You always were a good-for-nothing punk and now you're a murderer! You bastard!"
Another fist rocked him and Badger felt his blood begin to boil. "My fault? My fault?!" He shouted, all the pent-up anger and frustration at this pathetic excuse for a father finally coming out after all these years. "You abused her and you abused me! How many times did you slap her around, huh? How many times did you hurt her?! All she ever wanted was a happy, peaceful home, and now she had to-"
"I won't take that from you-" his father shouted back and they grappled, looking like two men dancing except for the punches and kicks thrown at one another. The old man managed to get a knee up into Badger's crotch and he stepped back, off balance, and tripped over his mother's prone body. He fell, sitting down hard, his teeth clicking together with enough force that he would have bitten off his tongue had it been between them, and the Predator went off.
Before he registered the shot, he saw his father grab his chest and, with wide eyes, fall to the floor.
Breathing raggedly, Badger looked from his father to his mother, then to the smoking gun in his hand. "It was an accident," he murmured to no one. "No, it was an accident."
Abruptly he became aware of voices outside and he got to his feet to look out the open window. He saw the neighbors standing outside their front door, looking up at the bedroom window - looking up at him! "Oh no," he muttered as he ran out of the room and down the stairs. "Oh no, it was an accident."
He ran out of the house, the gun still in his hand, and the few people who'd gathered outside to gawk at whatever was going on screamed at the sight of a young man with a gun and fled in all directions. Badger fled as well, wishing he could wake up from this horrible nightmare.
That was a long time ago, and after a short stint in prison for aggravated assault - his mother was a clear suicide and there were plenty of character witnesses who testified to his old man's drunken bouts of abuse - Badger was once again free and back on the streets. But there were many on the streets who were unsure of his innocence in the deaths of his parents, and he was saddled with a bad rep - which is also where he got the nickname 'Badger,' as in 'don't mess wid dat one, he's mean as a badger, kilt his folks, dey say'.
Thinking it was good to be out of all that mess, despite his damaged reputation, Badger looked forward to settling back into his old lifestyle. However, his old contacts would have nothing to do with him and he quickly discovered that his homecoming was going to be less than simple. A lot less.
He was surprised then when one of the younger kids, a scrawny boy called 'Scamper,' tugged on his jacket one morning. "Got a message fer ya Badger," the kid panted, out of breath from running. "Miss Janesta wants to see you up at her place. Says its urgent." The kid suited his nickname and scampered away before Badger could thank him. The little guy was probably afraid he'd go berserk and eat him or something, but Badger knew that Scamp would be storying up his pals later about how he'd faced down the killer. Badger couldn't help a small wry smile. Had he been that green not so long ago? He supposed he had. He pulled his jacket straight and started down the sidewalk toward Janesta's house. He wondered what his mysterious benefactor wanted with him. Whatever it was, at this thought he laughed out loud, uncaring of the looks he got from passersby, 'anything short of murder, that is,' he would do and gladly. He liked to keep his debts paid, it was just the way he was. So it was with apprehension that he knocked at the front door...
