Grim acquired most of his combat skills, knowledge, and ware from his time in the UCAS

military. Honorably discharged about two years ago, he returned home only to find his

fighting prowess was of little use in the corporate atmosphere of cube-farms,

'clock-punching' and wageslave mentality. Despite his sudden lack of 'marketable

experience,' Grim soon found his niche in the shadowy underworld. Two of his buddies

from the service - 'Sarge,' who used his official rank and acquisition savvy as a

fixer, and 'Patch,' a combat medic who transferred his skill with first aid and combat

surgery to the streets as a street doc, combined to become his small network of

contacts and he became a shadowrunner - a mercenary gun-for-hire. "Warfare is warfare;

whether in the jungle, on the streets of the sprawl, or a high-security research

installation; it all pays the same."

I didn't bother going through all the gear, but so long as it isn't more than 28 bp worth, you're good.

I'm curious about the relationship between Grim & his old Sargent. How long did they serve together. A loyalty 3 contact isn't anything to sniff at, but soldiers are usually pretty tight. Especially if they ran ops together. That would make me think more of a loyalty 4. However, if the Sargent always kept his distance from the rest of the team, then I can see how he and Grim would only have a healthy respect for each others' capabilities.

Same holds for Patch.

the gear is where I'm not sure of cost and availability - the GE Vindicator, for example, I have no stats on that

as for the contact ratings, I'm always unsure of how high to go, and what the GM will allow

Any GM will allow contact ratings up to 4 for both Connected and Loyalty. Anything over 4 and you're going to have to put a serious spotlight feature on the contact in your backstory to make it clear what's going on in the character's life. Remember, the idea that someone has a 5 or 6 loyalty to you is very high. Similarly, even most Fixers or Johnsons are unlikely to have a 5 or 6 Connected rating; that's knowing a LOT of people. So 4 is usually the limit of "unquestioned" rating. Above 4 is allowed, but it should be questioned.

To answer your (kinda unspoken) question, here are the stats on the GE Vindicator Mini-Gun

GE Vindicator Minigun
Light Machine Gun Class
Damage: 6P / AP -1 / Mode: FA (15 rounds per complex action instead of 10) / RC - / Ammo: 50(clip) or belt / Availability: 16F / Cost: 5500

The F rating on Availability means it is forbidden: SR4 Core Rulebook state "A forbidden item may never be legally purchased or owned, let alone transported or used, by a private person. Don't get caught."

Thought that was kinda funny. Hope this helps

With an Availability 16, you'll need the Restricted Gear 5BP Positive Quality. Ingram White Knight isn't as cool, but it's within the availability 12 you can get to.

i will probably go with the restricted gear quality then, because the minigun is a cool weapon

one of my all-time favorite movie scenes is from 'predator' when the guy mows down the jungle with the minigun - good stuff

Yes, my rank changed. Actually, most people's ranks have changed. I changed the criteria in an attempt to give people an achievable but challenging goal in terms of the "Player Dedication Rewards" that I have posted.
