"It was a dark and stormy night..."
Yeah, making some characters to perform in specialty duels would be cool. However, just trying how to overcome visible light modifiers is too easy. Everybody would probably take a race with an inherent vision bonus, and getting contacts with the opposite vision bonus, and then put infared and low-light flashlights in their guns. You would have to make some extra stipulations or make the environment more interesting. For example, a warehouse that stores various non-lethal grenades has had a work-related accident, so the fuses are blown (no lights or fans) and there is a pervasive smoke that blocks lasers and inhibits both thermal and low-light vision, in addition to astral sight. However, hidden inside this warehouse is an experimental new grenade that megacorporations A and B both want to acquire. One hires runner Y and the other hires runner Z. Mayhem ensues.
You'd have to make some rules:
"You can't remove the smoke." i.e., Clean Air spell
"You can't restore the power." i.e. to turn the lights or fans back on
Also:
"You have to burn the rope."
I would apply with a ghoul (blind) martial artist adept. Another idea would be a spider changeling who weaves a web and waits for the opponent to stumble into it. Another might just take a whole bunch of drones and miniguns and fill the room with hot lead, but I doubt the corps would appreciate that.
