Joseph Holmes was brought up in a family belonging to higher middle-class. His father was a lawyer who specialized in racial lawsuits which was quite natural for him after he'd seen part of his family, including his older brother, goblinized. Holmes' family suffered from the initial outburts of hatred towards orcs and trolls and Theodore Holmes's older brother was killed in an unprovoked fight.

Having been brought up in high moral standards that Theodore set for himself and his family, Joseph has a deeply ingrained dislike towards violence and values lives of all sentient beings, regardless of their race, species or history. Theodore had high hopes for his sone to continue in his footsteps, but Joe decided otherwise.

While he was attending high school, he discovered his adept potential but instead of taking advantage over his "normal" peers, he decided to keep his ability a secret, remembering well what had happened to his unfortunate uncle. His decision to join the DocWagon company was a rather simple one. He saw the opportunity to use his abilities to help other people, to save lives and possibly make his father proud.

That was not meant to be. His father was disappointed in Joe whom he saw as an heir to Holmes & Co, "Justice Without Prejudice". In a heated argument, Joe left his family in order to pursue his chosen path.

It worked for several years - Joe had completed the necessary medical training and he excelled at all physical excercises which landed him in a narrow group of special candidates for higly paid (but equally highly risky) extraction teams. While training for his new job, Joe was forced to learn a brutal yet effective self-defense known as Krav Maga. This martial art was supposed to help the medics to overcome possible obstacles and complications with the utmost efficiency.

For over four years Joe worked as a rescue medic and raised through the ranks, never failing a mission - up until one day when his supervisor gave him an order to extract a DocWagon client who was held hostage along with others. Upon arrival, Joe saw that all hostages were held in a confined space without any sign of medical care and some were badly wounded. He consulted his operator and received orders to "neutralize" the other hostages in order to prevent them from alerting guards should they cry for help.

Joe, whose conscience and pacifism was challenged by this order, decided to deny the order and attempted to rescue all the hostages. Unfortunately for him, the noise did alert the guards just as the operator had feared. Joe managed to rescue two out of seven hostages, but failed to rescue the DocWagon client alive.

Subsequent costs of ressurrection were charged to Joe and he was dismissed and fired from his DocWagon contract before he got a chance to finish his medical attestation. Now his only way of making do is treating lowlifes in the sprawl and maybe doing a run in shadows - he had treated several shadowrunners after their mission and he had been pondering trying it himself, lately.

Allen Cyrus Hill, born to the Salish-Shidhe Council in the year 2049. His grandfather was the tribe's shaman and taught Allen about spirits and their world. Allen always displayed a naturally inquisitive mind and ability to learn which was why his parents decided to send him off to Vancouver to study.

Allen chose to major in History. During his studies he got into an argument about the nature of magic and spiritual world; he decided to prove to his opponent that the spiritual world has always been there and that the events of early 21st century only brought the physical and spiritual worlds close together. Pooling his knowledge taught to him by his grandfather, Allen performed a ritual in which he entered the spiritual world, completely unprepared.

His affinity for magic attracted the attention of many spirits, benign and malevolent. In the end, one spirit triumphed and managed to protect Allen's astral form. It was the spirit of Sun - and it became Allen's mentor and guide on the journey through the spiritual world.

The experiece he was unprepared for however left Allen's mind shattered. A part of him rejected everything he knew and experienced about his shifter heritage, the spirit world and magic. The other part embraced the knowledge, possibly too much. The connection he shared with his spiritual mentor proved to be too close and some of the memories of the Sun spirit were transferred to Allen.

As a result two personalities reside in Allen. One that denies ever being able to shapeshift and perform magic calls himself "Allen". "Allen" attributes all magic and shapeshifting to his godly counterpart, tries to live modestly and uses his knowledge and education to make do as a smalltime blogger and private investigator. The other personality residing in Allen's mind calls himself "Horus" and believes he is the ancient Egyptian sun god (or at least an incarnation thereof). Along with other memories, "Horus" has command of ancient Arabic and Hebrew (Canaan) that were used back in the days of the great Egyptian empire.

Both personalities know of the other and are able to glimpse pieces of knowledge from each other. While "Allen" is somewhat scared of "Horus" and his power, "Horus" regards "Allen" a weakling, only slighly more worthy of the god's presence than other mortals.
