Wr3ck shrugged off that chain of thought before it could take hold and brought his attention back to the matter at hand. He only had a week to hack a major research facilities security system, control its functions and delete their data trail. The big troll's question was important, but he didn't bother waiting to hear the answer before blurting out:

"A week? Can't be done. No way. If I had a month sure, no problem. But a week? If, and I say IF, we can do this before then, would there be a bonus?"

Wr3ck wriggled in his seat a bit as he saw Mr. J.'s small frown at his asking for more funds.

"Okay, fine. If you still want me I'm in. Can your man get us inside info on the security or am I going to have to get all that on my own?"

"Yes, we are looking for delicacy, and would expect nothing less than quality from any team we hired. I am assured that you are all capable of what you say you can do," Mr. Johnson looked slantwise at Isaac for a moment as if skeptical about his choices of runners for the team before continuing, "As for your questions, Maker, is it? I will try to answer them in order:

"Dr. Nelson is a valuable asset to our organization, and his help has been invaluable to us in many regards. If he is somehow compromised, it will be a grievous loss for us, but he is a capable man, and I am sure he will be able to come out on top when the dust settles.

"For this operation, the samples are of the utmost priority. Dr. Nelson will be able to assist you once inside in getting to the samples and directing you on how to accomplish your goals. That being said, any deliberate attempt to ''blow his cover" will of course lead to heavy penalties for all of you.

"Collateral damage is acceptable to a point. We do not condone the use of heavy explosives or the destruction of an entire hospital, as we are not savage beasts. What is acceptable then? We are understanding that some security personnel may be injured or even killed, some minor damage to the building, but nothing larger than a grenade please.

"As for our best case scenario, we hope that you will all infiltrate the building without their knowledge, meet up with Dr. Nelson, gather samples of the vaccine, destroy the remainder, and our hacker friend should be able to destroy any data files through the internal servers. I hope that answers all of your questions, and as for Wreck..."

"Security details are a bit fuzzy still," he turns his eyes on the hacker, "Dr. Nelson has only been able to communicate with us through the use of smuggled microdrones. The entirety of Humana hospital is run on a closed loop matrix circuit -- meaning access from outside the building is nigh impossible. I'm afraid you will have to accompany the rest of the team inside. However, this is also good news, as once inside, the Matrix security will likely be low, since most hackers prefer to stay off site and that simply isn't an option here."

Darkon listened to the Johnsons explanations. “That means we have to get in by ourself somehow,” he threw in at some point. When the J finally ended, Darkon nodded. More to himself than to the others. “Alright. It is a difficult task but not impossible. Right now I have an idea or two of how to get in and to the samples.” Mumbling and hmming to himself, it should be clear for the others that he was already planning. “Yes, yes that might work.” He looked around at the others. “Maybe even without any collateral damage. I would prefer that too. But it is for the Fates to decide. As long as we work as a team, we will succeed.” He smiled confidently.

Every bit helps.” Again, he looked at each one for a second or two. “As we only have one week, I think we should go into planning phase as soon as possible. Are all questions answered?”

Azrael sat cross-legged and arms crossed, his hands concealed within the sleeves of the stolen coat; a pose incongruous with his apparel and perched on the straight-backed chair, but his solemn expression and half-lidded, slightly tilted eyed gaze told of his intent focus on the debriefing and negotiations. Infiltration with little or no collateral damage was the essence of the ninja tradition, and a vaccine against HMHVV was a worthy target.
Bowing low to the Johnson, he intoned in a heavy Japanese accent, "You seem an honorable man, Johnson-san. I, too, accept your generous offer."

With that, he resumed the Lotus pose, closed his eyes, and focused his concentration on listening to the continued discussion.

"sounds sketchy to me... but a good payoff" he looks around the group and shrugs "i can assure safe containment of the package cause I'm no stranger to the medical field and that should help us look a little less suspicious if we get in there and they start talking med speech..." pauses for dramatic effect and looks to the Johnson "I'm in. but I think we will probably need some of that nuyen up front, unless your willing to supply us with some of our gear cause i know I'm not setup for this kind of run."

"since its both a magical and medical facility and its got such precious cargo we are gonna be dealing with more than just your average guards" looks at the guy suggesting he can cover us with magic "if any of their guards are looking into the astral they will be able to tell we aren't who we say we are so we are going to have to use both tech and magic for this run which will be spendy..." shrugs indifferently "I dont know about you but I defenitly dont want to blow the run at the front door. i have been on ops more dangerous than this with people who know about this stuff, not trying to burst your magical bubble but we need to think smart. this isnt the case where magic users are only on our side we are going up against them too. think like you have to defeat yourself only much harder thats what we are needing to think like."

"so how about it johnson, a little up front or you covering our bill?"

"We are prepared to give some up front to make sure the run is successful. At this point, I can give each of you 10% of the total mission value now. That comes to 5000 each or 30,000 all together," Mr. Johnson nods to the oversized orc bodyguard who steps back into the room they had come from. A moment later, he returns with a briefcase.

Laying the case on the table, Mr. Johnson scans his thumb across the biometric scanner, opening the locks, and spins the case around. Inside are six credsticks. He pushes the case to the center of the table, and invites the runners to take one with a wave of his hand.

“I am well aware that other mages might get involved. And yes, of course we will also need technological support in our group. We have to work together. I thought that would be clear.” His friendly attitude never faltered a tad.
“There are several options to use magic to get in there. Not all of them are as visible in astral space. Although I admit that mages on the other side complicate things, it is still not impossible to get in there. But you mention another good point. Expenses.”
Darkon looked at Mr Johnson, then on the credsticks in front of him. "Very good. I duly hope this will suffice."

Maker tries to maintain a calm demeanor as the case it opened. If each of those credsticks contained 5,000 nuyen, then the six of them contained more cash than he had ever seen in one place - enough to just walk into a dealership and drive out five minutes later in a new car, free and clear. He couldn't help but smile as he quickly, gingerly, and very carefully plucked one stick from the case with his thumb and forefinger - as if even touching the others might somehow affect their value. He passed the stick over his commlink, verifying the 5,000 nuyen, and then slipped it into a velcro-flapped chest pocket right over his heart, where it'd be safest.

Addressing Darkon, he adds, "I think this should do to cover our up front expenses. Don't you, Mr. . . . uh . . . what did you say your name was?"

Unsure to whom the question had been aimed, Azrael opened his eyes and looked at the speaker. "No 'mister,' only 'Azrael,'" he said, then turned his slanted eyes to the open briefcase on the table. Rising from the uncomfortable-looking meditation pose, he reached over to take one of the credsticks. He held it up before his face, gazing at it with an almost absent-minded intensity before looking to the Johnson and giving a quick nod of gratitude. "Domo arigato, Johnson-san," he said and settled back into his chair, pulling himself into the Lotus position once more.

(OOC: I don't know if I spelled the Japanese words right, but the phrase is well known.)

He turned to Maker. “You can call me Darkon.” He nodded at the man. “And yes, this should be enough. Unless we need some really special equipment that is not already in the teams stock. But that is not too likely I think. Of course, what we really need, we will know once we have agreed on how to proceed.” Shifting on his seat, he continued: “I suggest we all get acquainted with each other and start planning as soon as there are no further questions for Mr Johnson. Nobody would want to steal his precious time and bore him with the tedious details of our trade, do we?” He looked everyone in the eye. “Well, are there any more questions for Mr Johnson? Or can we start working on this task?” Darkon did not sound urgent, merely business like. He thought: Not that I want to rush things. But given the short time, we better not spend too much time chit chatting in front of the J.

Wr3ck's eye locked onto the briefcase as soon as the orc walked in with it. As the case opened, he could feel his heart start to race. It took an eternity for the orc to spin it around. There they were, six sleek credsticks. And if the J was telling the truth, each held more money than the average wage-slave earned in a month! He watched as "Maker," "Azreal," and "Darkon" took their sticks. As Darkon stepped back form the case, Wr3ck shot his hand out and snagged one. He quickly shoved it deep into one of his pockets, he'd scan it later out of sight of the rest of his "team."

"Codewreck," he mumbled under his breath. Speaking up a bit more he continued. "I'll get started on external security procedures. We'll need some uniforms, and a couple of IDs from the facility. We should scope out the place, send me some photos of workers coming and going. I'll see if we can get a couple fake IDs made which might let us by-pass security doors. Who's on recon?" Wr3ck looked around the table waiting for a reply.

At the same moment he reached out with his AR gloves and opened his scan program. He scans the room for comsignals.

Picking up all the comlinks in the immediate area, Wr3ck saves the link address and waits until every one else leaves the room so he can see which com belongs to which person.

Wreck
The scan program humms a light whine while it kicks in, and in a few moments you have scanned the entire room. You can't yet tell whose comm is whose since they are all in such close proximity, but you hope to notice who leaves as each comm leaves.

Everyone
A few seconds tick by, as the Johnson and Isaac look around the group. The rounded table seems to be abuzz with chatter over what needs to be done and how to do it. As you all begin your discussions, Mr. Johnson stands from his seat to address the group: "It appears that you all have a decent grasp of the situation, and I am sure all will go as planned. I leave you now in the care of our mutual friend," nodding towards Isaac, "and wish you all good luck."

He turns to leave and the body guards do the same. The runners and Isaac are now the only ones in the very abandoned looking warehouse full of wooden crates. Many of which are dated some years ago.

As Johnson and the two body guards leave the range of your scan program, you lose the signal to one commlink. It appears that there was only one between the three men, unless others were powered down or heavily shielded.

"now that he's gone lets all take a trip shall we?" he looks at the assembled "I'm not the first person to take leadership but i defenitly am not comfortable with all this..." he motions around the room and walks to the table and begins re-loading his clips and puts his holster back on slaps a clip into the ares predator cocks back the slide taps the slide release and chambers a round then sets the safety and slides it into the holster.

"why don't we adjourn to another establishment?"

Darkon nodded, putting his gun back into it’s holster. While standing up, he addressed the others with a voice used to give out commands: “I know a location. Nice, nondescript, run by an ex runner rearing a righteously respectable reputation. And the tea is excellent.”

He smirked, standing up. “It is not even far to walk.” Already stepping towards the exit, he asked: “Who is with me?”

A bit lost, he stood at the exit. Darkon thought: Verdammt. It seems they are a bit too busy picking up their stuff to listen to me. If they knew what’s good for them they would.

He waited for the others to pick up their stuff, concealing his dissatisfaction about himself. When the others were about ready, he tried again.

“We can get there within ten minutes of walking. The owner might not be my best chummer, but I have run with him once in the past. He is trustworthy. He has a backroom where we could plan undisturbed. And without prying eyes.” Darkon recalled what he knew about the place. Chens noodle shop was only a short walk away. It was the owners retirement found. Chen himself was an ex weapons specialist in his sixties. And he pepped up his budget by providing runners and sometimes Johnsons he knows with a saferoom in his cellar. In house delivery from the menu included.

Conversations had been going back and forth. Plans upon plans, words upon words, and quite a lot of taking charge. Everyone was doing what everyone did best; preparing for a run and getting the job done.

Kat had blanked out the second pay was mentioned.

He came to briefly, words of where to move next bouncing around the table, and with a slow, almost trance-like drift, reached forward to pick up one of the credsticks in the suitcase.

It was good. It was better than good. It was beyond better than good.

With that kind of money he could sit up, life free, and maybe even move up a little in the garage business. Sure, no one would really want his work no matter how much money he had spent on making his shop look better, but it was a start at the very least.

Piping up, he coughed, then spoke.

"I am down for that... if you all are."

Maker stands up just after Darkon does, shoving the roomsweeper into the back of his pants (after double-checking both the manual and the electronic safeties).

"Sounds good. I'm ready to get out of here."

Maker blinks on his commlink and mentally switches it over to Active mode.

"I'm switching my commlink to Active for a sec. Take down the code if you want it."

They sat in a cellar room. It had no windows, but the air conditioning was excellent. The walls were decorated with Chinese wallpaper, ink drawings and statues. Darkon had leaned his staff at the big round poker table, covered with green fleece. Chen looked around at the group with sharp eyes. He had rent the room to them for a moderate fee which Darkon had paid by himself.
A young woman brought a pot of tea and enough teacups for everyone. She probably was Chens granddaughter. “A menu is in the drawer over there.” Chen pointed at an antique looking cabinet. “Use the com on the wall to order.” He pointed at it too. “It will blink red in case of emergency.” Then he turned towards the stairs leading up. “Roasted duck a la canton is very good today.” With that, he left the group alone, accompanied by the girl.

“Thank you Chen.” Darkon said while the Chinese left. The return was a mere grunt. “Charming as always,” Darkon meant chuckling. Then he straightened up. “Alright. Let’s talk tacheles. We will need some surveillance of the hospital. Discreetly of course. Depending on the results, we could either infiltrate as cleaning staff, a medical ‘emergency’ or security personnel. The last one would be especially tricky. We would need appropriate uniforms in any case. I am able to influence others, manipulate memories and emotions. Which will be useful to get us in and sooth eventual troubles. At least the metahuman side. I can not handle the electronic security though. For that we have a matrix specialist in our midst as far as I know.” He paused to take a breath. “Best case, we get in, do our job and get out without anyone noticing and/or remembering. Worst case, we get in, blow our cover and have to fight our way out.”

He looked at Doc. “You are a physician, right? What would be the best way to destroy the samples thoroughly?”

Wr3ck wasn't sure he trusted this "Darkon" and his mates. Nor was he so sure he wanted to trust anyone willing to just go along with Darkon's suggestion without first checking the place out. That just seemed suicidal!

Wr3ck took a look around as the rest of the team seemed to be moving toward the door to follow "Maker's" example. He just couldn't hold the scorn & contempt from his voice. These people were blind sheep!

'Thanks, chummer but I'll just go my own way for now. It's not that I don't trust you, but... well.. I don't. I don't know you, your dog, or your fraggin' friends.'

Wr3ck looked at Maker, 'I've already got your comm-address, bigguy. It's what I do, remember?' The sarcasm cut through the room like a dull knife, setting everyone on edge and making Wr3ck look like a petulant child who'd never worked a run before. Not that he noticed. He was too caught up in berating the team inside his head for listening to 'papa-san Drakon' to notice he wasn't winning any friends. Then again, he wouldn't have cared just so long as they did their jobs.

Before everyone left to follow "Darkon", Wr3ck pulled out the second commlink and turned it on active mode. 'Subscribe your PANs to this and I'll have access to whatever you guys give me. trideo, audio, whatever. It'll be like I'm right there, only I won't have to smell your breath.'

'Figure out who's going to do site reconn. Then get me some photos of potential targets for IDs and security breaches. I'll be looking into 'Trix sec and ways to circumvent any issues we'll have with that.'

The barbs and not-so-subtle recriminations kept coming as he waited for the team to either do as he'd asked, or leave. After everyone had left and he'd gotten as many confirmed comm-address as he could, Wr3ck logged back into the taxi service he'd hitched with before, Wr3ck ran through the same set of motions as earlier. Only this time he was looking to catch a ride near his place. He wanted to be comfortable before doing a full VR dive to scope out the target and potential threats. First stop? Blackhat Boards. That's where any semi-legit hacker went to get a line on a target. While Wr3ck was young, he'd been doing this a while and new how to go about doing his BG research. If you didn't know your target, you'd slip up and lose. Simple as that! What the team needed was information, and information was what Wr3ck was there to provide! He just hoped this didn't turn out like Denver...

en the Taxi arrived, Wr3ck hopped in and gave the man the address. He knew he had about 20 minutes to hack the camera and delete the footage of him before he arrived at his destination.

Knowing he'd have to do this quick, Wr3ck dropped his head and jacked-in Hot. His “eyes” opened onto the ‘trix landscape in his comm. He double checked to make sure his Stealth program was loaded. He also fired up his Analyze program just in case he needed it. What else?

None-combat/passive actions which do not pull Security attention:

A radar display appeared in front of Wr3ck and as its arm swept around, icons started to pop into being, it even blipped on a few that he couldn’t see. Where was the cab’s node? Wr3ck laughed to himself when he noticed the digital yellow cab with eyes for headlights. A couple of little data packets depicted as money signs were flowing to and from it. There were also the usual ad streams. There were a few nondescript transfers which may or may not be the camera system. Picking one, Wr3ck intercepted the stream.

Next he needed to be sure he had found the Camera. He decided to do a quick data intercept. Throwing out a fishing net, he “caught” the stream. Hacking 4 + Sniffer 5 + CI 1 + Enceph 2 + HS 2 = 14 2 hits= 2 minutes

Feeling safe behind his stealth prog, Wr3ck knew no one would notice as he double checked to make sure he’d found what he was looking for. This was the end of easy street, however. Once he was certain that he’d gotten the right data stream things were going to get difficult. He dropped the sniffer program and opened his Tracking Program
Wr3ck had confirmed the data stream was the one he wanted. And first try at that! Now he needed to follow it back to its controlling node so he could hack it. A bloodhound digitally appeared next to Wr3ck’s icon and after receiving instructions, it ran off along the data trail in search of the controlling node.

Cm’on! Checking his timer, it had only been two minutes, but in the ‘Trix that was like hours! Days even! When would the bloody node be found?

Finally! The tracking program adopted a dog-on-point pose. Wr3ck had found the camera’s node. Now he just needed to tell it what to do! He dropped the tracking prog. And the dog curled up as if to go to sleep before dissolving away. All that he had running now were Stealth, Analyze, and Spoof. He pulled out what looked like a mirror and “stared” into it to start spoofing commands. First thing first, stop recording!

Breathing more comfortably with the camera out of commission, Wr3ck checked the time. A digital display popped up telling him that it had only been a little over 2 minutes now. If he could sweat he would. This on-the-fly dreck could get you caught! To be safe, Wr3ck told the camera to kill the past 10 minutes of data.

Now he needed to set the camera up for a reboot. He timed it to start recording again 13 minutes after he should arrive at his destination. Sure that was two blocks from his place… but better to get a bit wet than pull right up to it! That’s how they found Evo, whoever Evo was. But it had been all over the boards last month. Wr3ck had always taken the precaution of getting out a block away, but after that story he’d doubled it.

Last command, this one was important. He told the Camera to delete the entries in the log file during his “visit.”

Wr3ck decided to do a quick look-see and make sure no one was tracking him.

Feeling fairly sure he hadn’t been noticed, Wr3ck logged out. He’d been in just under 3 minutes. In about 20 he’d be a few blocks from warmth and dryness. That’s when the real work would begin!

As the cab pulled up the curb, Wr3ck hoped out. Ducking his head against the rain, he walked quickly around the corner in the opposite direction from his crappy apartment. He’d go up the back street. The whole neighborhood was a crisscross of oneway streets in a nice, neat grid. He liked it because he could take about a hundred different routes to either entrance of his building.

Once inside he pulled off his wet overalls, sat in the squeaky desk chair he’d found near a dumpster a few weeks ago and dropped into ColdSim VR.

Pulling up all of the comm. addresses he’d snagged at the meet –excluding the J’s – Wr3ck fired off a message.

As the few runners trickled in to the basement meeting place, they were suddenly interrupted by Mr. Chen returning down the stairs with Isaac in tow.

"He says you know him," Chen states in a heavily accented voice, shrugging his shoulders at the man in white.

"Thank you Mr. Chen, that will do for now," the chinese man suddenly blinks, shakes his head and returns up the stairs, once again leaving the runners to their own devices. "It would seem we have had a few deserters," Isaac continued, glancing at the empty chairs around the room, "perhaps, I could fill another. I happen to know a short term replacement if needed." Isaac pulled his commlink system from under his heavy coat and tapped out a quick message on an AR keyboard floating above the unit.

"He should be here shortly. In the meantime, what sort of plans have we come up with hmm?"

"There you go Jose, all better." Dr. Murguard said to a small opc child as he stood up from applying a Slap patch on a scuffed knee. Looking to the mother orc, "Make sure you place a new one on every 8-9 hrs. ok?" as the doctor hands her 3 slap patchs. "You are good to go, and Jose, don't play football on the ferriocreate if you are playing tackle." Murguard said with a smile for the little orc boy.

Turning to the open door on his customized Bulldog Stepside, Dr Murguard started to clean up the trash and such from his ad-hoc wheeled clinic. Grabing the hold-out pistol he had put just inside the van, he reholsters it and buttons up the middle two button on his not so white trenchcoat. "hmmm, i seem to have missed a text." he said to himself. grabbing the commlink from where he had put his pistol.

Opening the com, he reads the message " 'ay doc, got job, can pay bills. Meet you at your Clinic on (insert address to basement). C U sune!"

"Sweet" the doc thought. "i am soo low on slap patchs" He send a reply.

"NP- be there soon, don't wait to long though."

climbing into the drivers seat, after closing the side door. The doc drives to the stated address as a few questionable's leave from an ally. "well this must be the place" he thinks as he pulls over and parks on the shoulder. Setting the basic secsys on the van, he heads inside the ally to see about an entrance.

When most of the others left, Darkon naturally wasn’t happy. But if they wouldn’t follow his lead this assignment would have failed anyway. “Alright mister Isaac. Who will be the new teammate?” He did not expect Chen to let Isaac in just like that. Given their task, Darkon had some suspicion. The old mage, who still looked like in his mid thirties, took a look at Isaac in astral space, seeing if he had magic abilities.

While doing so, he kept up the conversation. “Nevertheless, I am glad you anticipated the dissociation of some people you hired. On the other hand, I still think we can succeed in our task. A smaller group might be even more effective as it is easier to hide with few in plain sight than with many.”

From what little you saw of his aura, you couldn't tell anything about his true standing, but there was a faint animalistic feel to it. Otherwise, you were unable to tell whether magical abilities were present or not.
